Job Summary
The Sales Manager / Business Development Manager will be responsible for driving sales, expanding customer relationships, and developing new business opportunities within designated speciality chemical segments. This role requires a strategic thinker with strong domain expertise, proven revenue ownership, and the ability to manage key accounts and develop new markets. The position contributes directly to the company's growth objectives by leveraging industry knowledge and customer relationships.
Responsibilities
- Own and drive sales and business development for the assigned speciality chemicals portfolio and territory.
- Develop and expand business with key accounts, OEMs, manufacturers, distributors, and channel partners.
- Manage the entire sales cycle, including lead generation, customer acquisition, commercial negotiations, and account development.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key customers, principals, and stakeholders.
- Identify new business opportunities, applications, and markets within the assigned chemical segment.
- Drive revenue growth and achieve specified sales and business targets.
- Collaborate with customers to understand technical and commercial requirements and recommend suitable product solutions.
- Coordinate with internal teams on demand forecasting, supply planning, and inventory management.
- Support new product launches, customer onboarding, product trials, and application development.
- Monitor market trends, competitor activity, pricing, and customer needs to identify growth opportunities.
- Lead, mentor, and manage sales team members where applicable.
- Maintain strong relationships with principals and suppliers, especially within the speciality chemical distribution ecosystem.
Qualifications
- 6–15 years of experience in Sales / Business Development within Speciality Chemicals or closely related industries.
- Strong understanding of relevant chemical segments such as Surfactants, Emollients, Active Ingredients, Natural Extracts, Personal & Home Care ingredients, Flavour & Fragrance ingredients, Aroma Chemicals, Aromatics, Phenol-chain intermediates, Coatings chemicals, Adhesives, Sealants, Elastomers, or other speciality chemical intermediates.
- Demonstrable revenue ownership with the ability to quantify business handled.
- Proven ability to articulate:
- Products / portfolio handled
- Key customers / accounts managed
- Annual revenue or sales responsibility
- Territory / geography covered
- Principal relationships, where applicable
- Strong existing relationships with key accounts, manufacturers, OEMs, distributors, or principals.
- Experience working with MNCs, Indian speciality chemical manufacturers, or promoter-led organizations.
- Excellent commercial, negotiation, and relationship-management skills.
- Educational qualifications such as BSc, BTech, MSc, or relevant technical degrees in chemistry, chemical engineering, or related fields.
