Job Summary

The Head / Deputy CTO for BHIM is a strategic and hands-on technology leadership role responsible for shaping the company's technology vision, product architecture, security, and engineering execution within the digital payments ecosystem. The role involves building a scalable, secure, high-performance platform that positions BHIM as an industry leader. The candidate will lead the development of innovative solutions, ensure platform reliability, and drive technological excellence to support rapid growth and compliance with regulatory standards.

Responsibilities

• Define and execute BHIM's technology strategy, architecture roadmap, and modernization initiatives to ensure a robust and scalable platform.
• Build a culture of engineering excellence, technical rigor, innovation, and continuous improvement across teams.
• Drive adoption of emerging technologies such as AI, automation, cloud-native solutions, and platform engineering to enhance product capabilities.
• Provide hands-on technical leadership by participating in architecture reviews, solution design, technology selection, and critical engineering decisions.
• Mentor and guide architects, engineering managers, principal engineers, and development teams to uphold best practices in software development, security, and reliability.
• Lead resolution of critical production incidents, performance bottlenecks, and complex technical challenges to ensure high platform availability and performance.
• Ensure compliance with security standards and regulatory frameworks such as RBI, NPCI, PCI DSS, ISO 27001, and CERT-In.
• Oversee end-to-end software engineering lifecycle, ensuring rapid, high-quality delivery through Agile, DevOps, and DevSecOps methodologies.
• Establish enterprise-wide standards for architecture, security, and engineering governance, including microservices, API-first architecture, and cloud-native platforms.
• Drive platform resilience by implementing fault-tolerant, high-availability systems capable of handling peak transaction loads.
• Lead initiatives for fraud prevention, risk mitigation, and security posture enhancement.

Qualifications

• Experience: 18+ years of technology experience, with at least 8-10 years in senior engineering or technology leadership roles.
• Domain expertise: Large-scale digital platforms, fintech, payment networks, or banking technology.
• Technical skills:
  • Deep expertise in large-scale systems and high-volume transaction processing platforms.
  • Strong knowledge of Digital Payments and microservices architecture.
  • Proficiency in Java, React.js, Spring Boot.
  • Experience with Cloud Platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
  • Hands-on experience with Kubernetes and container platforms.
  • Expertise in DevOps, DevSecOps, CI/CD pipelines.
  • Knowledge of Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) and Platform Engineering.
  • Secure architecture design and implementation.
  • Data engineering, real-time analytics, and AI/ML-driven platforms.
  • Performance engineering and scalability strategies.
• Educational qualifications: Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related fields.

• Experience with regulatory compliance such as RBI, NPCI, PCI DSS, ISO 27001.

• Over 18 years of relevant technology experience.
• Demonstrated success in building and scaling mission-critical digital platforms processing high transaction volumes.
• Proven leadership in managing large engineering teams while maintaining close technical involvement.

Environment

• Location: Preferably based in Mumbai, with a secondary option in Hyderabad.
• Work Mode: In-office, 5 days a week.
• Work Setting: Fast-paced, high-pressure environment focused on innovation, security, and reliability in the digital payments space.
