OHL Design Engineer (Overhead Lines for Electricity Transmission/Distribution System)

Job Summary

As an OHL Design Engineer, you will be a key member of the Design team, engaging with clients and contributing to the successful delivery of groundbreaking and technically challenging overhead line (OHL) design projects, encompassing overhead transmission lines up to 400KV.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical expertise in bids and proposals and represent the company in client meetings as a senior member of the OHL team.
• Deliver overhead line design on complex multi-discipline projects, including PLS-CADD modelling, line routing, structural analysis, and loading trees.
• Take responsibility for assigned project scope, technical delivery, and client engagement for overhead line works.
• Offer expert technical evaluations and problem-solving solutions, contributing to written proposals detailing project timelines, resources, and objectives.
• Conduct feasibility studies, perform conductor thermal ratings, and ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.
• Ensure work meets safety, health, environmental, sustainability, and quality standards while adhering to design management processes.
• Analyze existing networks to identify operational challenges and reengineer electrical schemes to meet techno-commercial and regulatory requirements.
• Develop technical designs for future-proof electrical networks, including preparation of associated drawings and detailed technical specifications.
• Engage with customers to present technical designs, ensuring alignment with local requirements and addressing necessary deviations.

Qualifications

• Education: B.E / B. Tech in Electrical and Electronics or Electromechanical Engineering.
• Experience: 5-10 years or more in OHL design for Transmission Network systems, preferably in developed countries such as the US or UK.
• Technical Skills:
  • Knowledge of Transmission Line Design Standards.
  • Proficiency in power system simulation software (NEPLAN, ETAB, DigSilent, Dinish, PSSE-Sincal or similar).
  • Experience in the preparation of technical design reports.
  • Familiarity with Transmission system design, including OH Line Route Selection, network protection, Lightning Protection, and Corona Effect Analysis.
  • Knowledge of Structural Engineering, GIS systems, and CAD systems.
• Soft Skills: Good communication and report writing skills, team handling skills, and project management skills.

Preferred Skills

• Experience in project management and leadership roles.
• Additional certifications in relevant engineering fields.

Experience

• Minimum of 5-10 years of relevant experience in OHL design, preferably in developed countries.

Environment

• Initial work will be at the client’s site in the UK for at least one year for familiarization and project kickoff, followed by offshore support from Bangalore, India.
