Job Summary
The Head of Diamonds - Inventory is a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing all diamond sourcing, quality assurance, and cross-border logistics operations for the Group from Jaipur. This role ensures the seamless movement of diamonds, gemstones, and finished jewelry across multiple international locations, maintaining high standards of quality, cost efficiency, and compliance. The position plays a critical role in optimizing procurement strategies, and ensuring adherence to regulatory standards, thereby contributing to the organization’s growth and operational excellence.
Responsibilities
- Lead global sourcing of natural and lab-grown diamonds (loose and melee) from approved suppliers and key trading hubs such as Surat, Mumbai, Hong Kong, Antwerp, Dubai, and New York.
- Establish and enforce grading, quality, and certification standards (including GIA, IGI, and others) across all entities and partners, with quality control checkpoints at various stages of the supply chain.
- Negotiate vendor rates and monitor market prices (Rapaport, polished and rough indices) to optimize purchase costs and improve procurement efficiency.
- Manage diamond inventory control, including reconciliation, aging, stock allocation, and minimizing losses and wastage, coordinating with in-house teams, job-work partners, and outsourced vendors.
- Maintain and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), train regional teams, and report regularly to senior leadership on key metrics such as purchase costs, quality rejection rates, inventory accuracy, shipment performance, and vendor compliance.
- Serve as the single point of accountability for diamond procurement, quality control, and cross-border logistics group-wide, including managing a team of procurement, QC, logistics, customs, and freight staff.
Qualifications
- 10+ years of experience in diamond sourcing, grading, or procurement within the jewelry/diamond industry.
- GIA Graduate Diamonds (GG) certification or equivalent strongly preferred.
- Strong negotiation, vendor management, and analytical skills.
- Hands-on experience with diamond grading and quality assessment.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to coordinate across different time zones.
- Ability to travel internationally as required.
- Educational qualifications: Bachelor's degree or higher in relevant fields such as Business, Supply Chain Management, or related disciplines.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with Kimberley Process compliance and conflict-free sourcing standards.
- Knowledge of high-value shipment security protocols.
- Familiarity with market indices like Rapaport.
- Strong leadership and team management capabilities.
- Proficiency in logistics management software and ERP systems.
Experience
- Minimum of 10 years in diamond sourcing, procurement, or quality control.
- Demonstrated success in managing multi-country operations involving in-house, outsourced, and job-work production processes.
Environment
This role is based in Jaipur, India, at the Group’s head office. It involves regular international travel to key markets such as New York, Dubai, and Hong Kong.
