Head of Legal

Location: Ahmedabad
 Experience: 12–14 years (ideal)
 Compensation: 70–80 LPA
 Qualification: LLB (mandatory) | Qualified Company Secretary – good to have, not mandatory

 


 

Role Overview

We are looking for a seasoned Head – Legal to lead and build the legal function for a high-growth organization. This role will partner closely with leadership to enable scale, capital raises, and governance while operating in a fast-paced, evolving environment.

The role requires a hands-on legal leader who is comfortable starting independently and building a team over time, with strong exposure to fundraise transactions, FEMA, and stakeholder management.

 


 

Key Responsibilities

1. Equity & Debt Fundraise Transactions (Critical)

  • Lead all legal aspects of equity (FDI) and debt fundraises, including transaction structuring and execution
  • Draft, review, and negotiate SSA, SHA, NCD documentation, and other transaction agreements
  • Manage investor and lender negotiations in coordination with leadership
  • Oversee all regulatory approvals and transaction-related filings

2. FEMA & Companies Act Compliance (Critical)

  • Ensure complete compliance with FEMA regulations relating to foreign investments, pricing guidelines, and reporting
  • Handle filings including FC-GPR, FC-TRS, and other RBI-related compliances
  • Oversee Companies Act compliance, secretarial governance, board processes, and statutory filings

3. Contracts & Commercial Operations

  • Own end-to-end contract management across supply chain, manufacturing, dealerships, service, technology, and partnerships
  • Ensure contracts are commercially sound with strong risk mitigation and operational safeguards
  • Support business teams with pragmatic legal solutions aligned to growth objectives

4. EV Sector Regulatory Compliance

  • Oversee compliance related to EV manufacturing and operations, including homologation, battery regulations, and safety standards
  • Ensure adherence to applicable environmental, factory, and industry-specific regulations
  • Liaise with regulatory bodies and external advisors on sector-specific compliance matters

5. Stakeholder Management & Way of Working (Critical)

  • Act as a trusted legal partner to CXOs, finance, supply chain, R&D, and business leadership
  • Manage external stakeholders including law firms, counsels, advisors, investors, lenders, and regulators
  • Demonstrate a calm, structured, and solution-oriented approach in high-stakes and high-growth situations

 


 

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • 12–14 years of post-qualification experience in in-house legal roles, preferably in high-growth or startup environments
  • Strong hands-on experience in fundraise transactions, FEMA compliance, and corporate governance
  • Comfortable operating as a standalone legal leader with the ability to build and scale the function
  • Commercially minded with the ability to balance legal risk and business priorities
  • Prior exposure to manufacturing, infrastructure, or regulated sectors is a plus
