Job Summary
The Automation Design Engineer (Senior) will be responsible for designing, developing, and implementing electrical, control, and automation systems for Minimac Systems Pvt. Ltd. (MSPL). The role involves managing the entire automation lifecycle from customer enquiry to commissioning, ensuring adherence to standards, optimizing control solutions, and supporting project execution. The engineer will work closely with cross-functional teams, including hydraulic design, panel vendors, and site service engineers, and will be expected to handle projects independently while guiding junior engineers.
Responsibilities

Control Philosophy and System Design
- Develop control philosophy, operating logic, interlock, and alarm/trip schedules for various systems such as filtration, vacuum dehydration, oil purification, flushing, and hydraulic power packs.
- Define protection logic for heaters, pumps, and vacuum systems, including safety and operational interlocks.
- Collaborate with hydraulic design teams on P&IDs to finalize instrumentation, IO points, and control loops.
- Prepare IO lists, instrument schedules, load lists, and cable schedules.

PLC, HMI, and SCADA Programming
- Develop, test, and document PLC programs (Siemens, Allen-Bradley, Mitsubishi, Delta, or equivalent) for different operational modes.
- Design HMI screens for operation, trend analysis, alarms, moisture/readouts, and maintenance.
- Configure communication protocols with customer DCS/SCADA systems over Modbus RTU/TCP, Profinet, Profibus, Ethernet/IP.
- Maintain standard program libraries for various series.

Control Panel and Electrical Design
- Design power and control circuits, MCC/starter panels, VFD panels, and local control stations.
- Prepare electrical schematics, panel general arrangement (GA), wiring diagrams, terminal details, and BOMs using EPLAN or AutoCAD Electrical.
- Select and size MCBs, MPCBs, contactors, overloads, VFDs, soft starters, relays, and cables.
- Specify enclosure IP ratings and hazardous-area equipment as per application or customer requirements.
- Coordinate with outsourced panel vendors and resolve technical queries.

Instrumentation and Condition Monitoring
- Select appropriate sensors and transmitters for pressure, temperature, level, flow, vacuum, and oil condition monitoring.
- Integrate online particle counters, moisture sensors, and oil condition sensors into control systems.
- Develop IoT and remote monitoring solutions for condition-based maintenance, including gateways, cloud dashboards, and data logging.
- Define calibration requirements and prepare instrument data sheets.

Pre-Sales and Project Support
- Analyze customer specifications and tender documents for automation requirements.
- Prepare technical proposals, scope of automation, control architecture, and compliance documentation.
- Engage in technical discussions with clients, consultants, and EPC contractors.

Project Execution and Documentation
- Submit electrical and control documentation for customer approval, including schematics, panel GA, IO lists, and control philosophy.
- Maintain electrical BOMs and item masters in SAP B1.
- Manage revision control for drawings and software versions.
- Prepare operation & maintenance manuals, as-built drawings, and software backups.

Testing, Commissioning, and Support
- Conduct panel inspections at vendor sites, including wiring checks, IR testing, and functional testing.
- Perform integrated testing and Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) with customers or third-party inspectors.
- Support site commissioning, troubleshooting, and remote assistance.
- Analyze field failures and service reports to improve design and programming.

Standardization, Safety, and Development
- Standardize panel designs, components, and program modules to reduce time and costs.
- Ensure compliance with IEC 60204-1, IEC 61439, and relevant IS standards.
- Support new product development and automation upgrades.
- Mentor junior engineers and draftsmen.
Qualifications
- Educational Qualifications: B.E./B.Tech in Electrical, Electronics, Instrumentation, or Mechatronics Engineering. (Diploma with strong relevant experience may be considered.)
- Technical Skills:
- PLC programming (ladder, FBD, structured text) on Siemens (TIA Portal), Allen-Bradley, Mitsubishi, or Delta platforms.
- HMI/SCADA development (WinCC, FactoryTalk, GT Designer, DOPSoft or equivalent).
- Industrial communication protocols: Modbus RTU/TCP, Profinet, Profibus, Ethernet/IP, OPC UA.
- Electrical design using EPLAN or AutoCAD Electrical.
- Motor control, VFD configuration, and heater control (SSR/thyristor).
- Selection and sizing of switchgear, cables, and protection devices.
- Process instrumentation: pressure, temperature, level, flow, vacuum, and oil sensors.
- Reading and preparing P&IDs, loop diagrams, and interlock logic.
- Working knowledge of SAP B1 or other ERP systems for BOM management.
- Awareness of IEC standards and hazardous-area classifications.
Preferred Skills
- Experience interfacing with DCS systems in power, steel, cement, or oil & gas industries.
- Hands-on site commissioning experience.
- Exposure to IoT platforms, remote monitoring, or Industry 4.0 solutions.
- Experience working with outsourced panel fabrication vendors.
- Strong troubleshooting skills under site pressure.
- Willingness to travel for FAT, commissioning, and troubleshooting.
Experience
- Minimum of 4–5 years in automation design for skid-mounted systems, hydraulic power packs, lube oil systems, or process equipment.
- Relevant experience in interfacing with DCS systems and site commissioning.
Environment
- The role involves working in a hybrid environment with in-office design work and on-site commissioning and troubleshooting.
- Location: Chakan, Pune – Plant (Success Industrial Park, Nighoje).
- The position may require travel for FAT, commissioning, and troubleshooting activities.
- The work environment includes office settings, vendor workshops, and customer sites, with adherence to safety standards.
Salary
- Full-time, Permanent position with a salary range of 7-8 LPA (Lakhs per annum).
