Mainframe System Programmer
Job Summary
The Mainframe System Programmer will be responsible for installing, maintaining, and supporting z/OS and related software products on centralized zSeries servers. This role involves mastering tools related to zSeries servers, ensuring system performance, supporting daily maintenance activities, diagnosing and resolving complex problems, and managing service requests. The programmer will also create technical documentation, analyze new service needs, develop process improvement solutions, participate in audits and disaster recovery tests, and provide scheduled on-call support. This position contributes to maintaining robust and efficient mainframe operations that support organizational goals.
Responsibilities
- Install, propagate, maintain, and support z/OS and related software products on centralized zSeries servers.
- Master and manage tools of centralized zSeries servers including JCL, Scheduler, operations, automation, storage, printing, and change/incident processes.
- Monitor system performance and various system components to ensure optimal operation.
- Support daily system maintenance activities and perform problem determination and resolution.
- Diagnose complex issues, propose, and implement customer-adapted solutions.
- Manage service requests or reported problems and follow up until resolution.
- Create and maintain technical procedures and documentation for solutions.
- Provide functional analysis of new needs and service offerings.
- Develop solutions to improve processes affecting client support.
- Participate in audits and disaster recovery tests.
- Provide on-call support as scheduled.
Qualifications
- Excellent knowledge of HLAsm (High-Level Assembler), REXX / CLIST scripting, TSO / ISPF, JCL (Job Control Language), and SMPE (System Modification Program/Extended).
- Functional knowledge of z/OS operating system, JES2 (Job Entry Subsystem 2), storage management (backup, archive, Tape Manager, IOGEN), monitors, automation tools, SDSF / IOF (System Display and Search Facility / Input/Output Facility), RACF / TSS / ACF2 security products, Sysplex, and testing/debugging tools.
- General knowledge of mainframe products such as DB (Databases), CICS (Customer Information Control System), IMS (Information Management System), and other mainframe software.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Educational qualifications typically include a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.

Experience
- 1 to 5 years of relevant experience with a maximum salary up to 20 LPA (INR).
- 5 to 8 years of relevant experience with a maximum salary range of 28 to 30 LPA (INR).
Environment
- Work type: Full-time.
- Work mode: Hybrid (combination of remote and on-site work).
- Job locations: Hyderabad, Bangalore, Chennai, Pune.
Salary
- Salary range for 1-5 years experience: up to 20 LPA (INR).
- Salary range for 5-8 years experience: 28 to 30 LPA (INR).
