Analytics Scientist – UPI

Job Summary

The Analytics Scientist – UPI will play a crucial role in fraud detection and prevention within the digital payments ecosystem. This position involves analyzing transaction data, developing risk models, and collaborating with various teams to enhance transaction safety and prevent fraud.

Responsibilities

  • Fraud Detection & Prevention

    • Analyze UPI and QR transaction data to identify suspicious patterns.
    • Contribute to the development of rule-based and machine learning-assisted models to flag abnormal payment behaviors.
    • Support initiatives like device fingerprinting, location-based risk analysis, and velocity checks.
    • Work with the engineering team to implement basic fraud detection rules into payment systems.
  • Risk Analytics & Model Development

    • Collaborate with senior analysts to build and test both supervised and unsupervised machine learning models.
    • Investigate trends and anomalies in transaction data, such as high-frequency usage or location mismatches.
    • Monitor model performance and help fine-tune risk thresholds.
  • Regulatory Risk Support

    • Learn to interpret and apply guidelines from the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) and the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to support internal controls.
    • Participate in tracking fraud cases and assist with reporting and conducting root cause analysis.
  • Cross-Team Collaboration

    • Collaborate with product, technology, and compliance teams to implement fraud mitigation strategies.
    • Share data insights to enhance transaction safety and bolster customer trust.

Qualifications

  • Experience: Approximately 1.5 years in fraud analytics, data science, or risk analysis specifically related to UPI or digital payments.
  • Technical Skills: Proficient in Python and SQL; familiarity with tools such as Pandas and scikit-learn or similar platforms.
  • Analytical Thinking: Strong problem-solving abilities with a focus on data analysis and pattern recognition.
  • Learning Mindset: Eager to learn new tools and techniques with guidance from senior team members.
  • Team Player: Demonstrated communication and collaboration skills are essential.
