Job Summary

We are seeking two experienced Platform Engineers to support run-operations, design, deployment, life cycle management, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), and self-service automations for our Apache Kafka Platform. The primary objective is to achieve infrastructure as code while collaborating closely with application developers and ensuring on-call support for platform consumers. This role will lay the groundwork for transitioning the Kafka platform service to a smaller Bought Service engagement with a preferred partner in the future.

Responsibilities

  • Support run-operations and oversee the design and deployment of the Apache Kafka platform.
  • Implement life cycle management practices, focusing on infrastructure as code.
  • Collaborate with application developers to enhance platform functionality and performance.
  • Provide on-call support to fulfill commitments towards platform consumers.
  • Drive Kafka adoption across the organization through knowledge sharing and mentoring.
  • Lead internal Kafka meetups and create educational materials.

Qualifications

  • Technical Skills:

    • 5+ years of experience in Kafka administration and DevOps/SRE practices.
    • Strong expertise in Kafka architecture, internals, and performance tuning.
    • Hands-on experience with Kubernetes (EKS, AKS, GKE) and Kafka operators (Strimzi).
    • Proficiency in tools such as Terraform, Helm, and CI/CD pipelines.
    • Strong scripting skills in Python, Bash, or Golang for automation purposes.
    • Experience with monitoring and logging tools: Prometheus, Grafana, Loki, ELK, OpenTelemetry.
    • Knowledge of Kafka ecosystem tools: MirrorMaker 2.0, Kafka Streams, ksqlDB, Schema Registry.
    • Good understanding of networking, DNS, service meshes, and Kubernetes security best practices.
  • Soft Skills:

    • Passion for teaching, mentoring, and knowledge sharing across teams.
    • Strong communication skills to explain Kafka concepts to non-experts.
    • Proactive problem-solver and influencer, capable of driving Kafka adoption.
    • Ability to collaborate effectively with developers, data engineers, and leadership teams.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience in leading technical discussions and writing technical blogs would be advantageous.

Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in DevOps engineering and Apache Kafka administration.

Environment

  • This role is offshore based in India, with a focus on collaboration with local and international teams.

Salary

  • Estimated salary range: $10,000 - $20,000 annually.
