Role Overview: The Head of On-Tap Experience & Quality is a strategic and hands-on leadership role, pivotal to delivering a consistently superior on-tap beer experience across premier on premise establishments. This position is responsible for the strategic leadership and comprehensive management of all operational facets of draught beer and associated chiller assets, from their effective deployment and meticulous maintenance to optimal usage throughout India. The overarching objective is to deliver a consistently superior on-tap beer experience for premier on premise establishments, thereby fostering brand loyalty, stimulating sales growth, and optimizing operational expenditures. This position is fundamental to ensuring that the company's commitment to quality is upheld at every consumer touchpoint, directly contributing to commercial success. Key Responsibilities: I. Strategic Leadership & Planning (National Scope): Strategic Planning & Budgeting: Develop and implement a comprehensive national strategy for draught beer operations, aligning with company's vision and overall trade marketing and commercial objectives. Formulate annual and long-term operational budgets, encompassing equipment procurement, technician salaries, and maintenance costs. Identify and drive opportunities for process optimization and cost efficiencies within the draught beer operations. Capex & Working Capital Management: Lead the forecasting and planning of Capital Expenditure (Capex) for new draught beer installations, system upgrades, and major equipment purchases on a national scale. Manage working capital requirements, including inventory of spares, accessories, ancillaries (like CO2), and operational consumables. Develop robust financial models to support investment decisions and ensure optimal resource allocation. Performance Analysis & Reporting: Prepare and present detailed monthly reports to senior leadership, covering key performance indicators such as plan vs. achievement for machine sanitization, budget vs. actual spends, assets inventory, technician productivity, and quality audits. Analyze data to identify trends, pinpoint areas for improvement, and recommend strategic adjustments. II. Driving Draught Beer Quality & Experience: Quality Control and Assurance: Implement and enforce rigorous quality control protocols across all on premise locations, ensuring beer is dispensed at optimal temperatures (crucial for beer quality and with correct CO2 pressure. This includes maintaining the integrity and quality of draught beer from keg to glass. End-User Training & Pouring Rituals: Provide comprehensive training to end-users (bar staff, outlet owners) on managing draught beer quality, emphasizing equipment hygiene maintenance, precise pouring rituals per brand, and understanding draught beer quality assurance processes. System Audits & Expert Troubleshooting: Conduct regular national audits of draught systems to identify and rectify common problems such as improper temperature, incorrect system pressure, poor faucet operation, or inadequate maintenance. Possess the crucial ability to troubleshoot complex issues like all foam, flat beer (lacking head and flavor), cloudy beer, or false heads (soap-like bubbles) to maintain superior beer quality. Maintenance & Sanitation Programs (Hands-on Approach): Ensure compliance in managing draught beer units and chiller assets, overseeing their installation at new locations, regular maintenance, and deployment. Adhere to a strict cleaning schedule, implementing comprehensive cleaning procedures that involve turning off CO2, disconnecting kegs, disassembling and soaking components, and circulating cleaning solutions (caustic for organic residues, acidic for mineral deposits) through lines using a recirculating pump. Oversee regular upkeep and repair of all draught equipment, including cooling systems, kegs, and draft lines, coordinating effectively with vendors for service, repairs, and capital upgrades. III. National Operations & Supply Chain Management: Procurement & Vendor Management (Strategic Sourcing): Oversee the national procurement of draught beer equipment (e.g., chillers, tap towers, regulators, beer lines, gas cylinders, cleaning solutions, and other necessary supplies. Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with dispense system vendors, and service providers to ensure a consistent supply of quality beer, chiller assets, and components, including managing payment terms and addressing discrepancies. Inventory & Asset Management (Precise Control): Implement and utilize advanced inventory management systems for real-time tracking draught systems, consumption rates, and optimizing VPO (Volume per Outlet). Conduct nationwide audits for both draught beer and chiller assets, providing monthly reports for key customers and quarterly reports for the entire trade. Track & Trace Implementation (Regulatory Adherence): Ensure all draught assets are tracked from procurement to dispense, adhering to company’s policy. This requires constant collaboration with sales and supply chain teams. IV. Team Leadership & Development: Field Service Team Management (Optimizing Efficiency): Develop and maintain optimized Permanent Journey Plans (PJPs) and Beat Plans for regional draught beer technicians to ensure efficient coverage, timely service, and adherence to maintenance schedules across the nation. Monitor technician performance against planned activities and KPI. Recruitment, Training & Development: Lead the recruitment, hiring, training, and retention of a diverse technical personnel. Provide comprehensive training on technical skills (e.g., dispense system installation and maintenance), safety protocols, and customer service. Performance Management & Motivation: Lead, motivate, and support a large team in a time sensitive and demanding environment. Conduct regular performance appraisals, providing constructive feedback and identifying areas for professional development. Conduct regular site visits (minimum 50 outlets per month) to monitor execution and assess team performance. V. Cross-Functional & External Collaboration: Sales & Trade Marketing Alignment: Collaborate closely with Sales to accurately gauge market demands, support sales initiatives, and maximize draught beer availability. Partner with Trade Marketing to enhance brand visibility and ensure the draught experience at premier on premise accounts aligns perfectly with marketing campaigns and activations. Procurement & Finance Integration: Work in conjunction with Procurement to ensure strategic, cost-effective sourcing and supply chain efficiency. Collaborate with Finance to develop and manage operational budgets, control costs (overhead, product expenses), and provide detailed financial performance reports. Legal & Regulatory Adherence: Partner with legal and compliance teams to report and initiate action and loss recovery from customers for damages, non-compliance with draught system agreements, or misuse/tampering of company assets. Brewery Operations/Production: Maintain direct communication with brewery operations and production teams to ensure upstream quality control and consistency of the beer product, aligning production schedules with distribution needs and addressing any product-related quality concerns. Qualifications: Educational Background: Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or related field), Operations Management, or a relevant business discipline required. Professional Experience: Minimum of 8-12 years of progressive experience in operations management, with a strong focus on technical and field service operations within the F&B, hospitality, beverage, or a related industry (e.g., industrial refrigeration, technical services for heavy equipment, or complex machinery). At least 3-5 years of direct experience specifically managing technical operations related to beverage dispensing systems (e.g., draught beer, post-mix, coffee machines) or commercial refrigeration/HVAC systems at a regional or national level. This should include hands-on familiarity with installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting. Proven success in managing a large, distributed technical team, optimizing their productivity, and ensuring adherence to stringent service level agreements. Demonstrated expertise with commercial refrigeration systems, cold chain management, and chiller assets, including their installation, preventive maintenance, and complex troubleshooting. Experience with glycol cooling systems is highly desirable. Prior experience overseeing the technical operations, installation, and maintenance of vending machines, automated drink dispensing systems, or similar electro-mechanical equipment will be a significant advantage. Experience in multi-unit technical service operations or large-scale technical project management is beneficial for a national role. While direct brewery operations experience is a plus, a strong technical background in related fields that demonstrates an understanding of fluid dynamics, temperature control, and precision equipment is more critical. Skills & Attributes: Excellent communication (verbal and written), organizational, interpersonal, and negotiation skills. The ability to effectively convey complex technical information to non technical stakeholders (e.g., sales teams, bar owners) is particularly valuable. Strong leadership and team management abilities are paramount for managing diverse teams, fostering a positive work environment, and driving performance excellence in a family-owned context. Strong budgeting and financial management skills are essential for controlling costs and ensuring profitability in a growing business. Exceptional problem-solving skills, adaptability to new technologies and processes (e.g., sensor-enabled systems), and the ability to handle unexpected supply chain disruptions are critical in a fast-paced and dynamic Indian market.
