Job Summary

We are seeking a Platform Architect/Lead for a Singapore-based climate-tech startup. The role involves designing and leading the development of a robust, scalable, and compliant environmental data platform. The candidate will play a critical role in shaping the technical architecture, ensuring data integrity, and facilitating seamless integration with external data sources and standards frameworks to support the company's mission in climate and sustainability reporting.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and development of the platform’s backend architecture, ensuring scalability, reliability, and compliance with industry standards.
• Develop and maintain APIs and integration points to connect with multiple external, third-party data sources, registries, verification bodies, and standards frameworks such as Verra, Gold Standard, Puro Earth, and ICVCM Core Carbon Principles.
• Ensure data architecture adheres to principles of traceability, auditability, and correctness, enabling transparent and trustworthy environmental data management.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define technical requirements, data standards, and integration strategies.
• Oversee system implementation, conduct code reviews, and ensure best practices in backend engineering, particularly in Java and Python.
• Stay updated on industry trends in climate-tech, carbon markets, ESG, and sustainability reporting to inform platform enhancements.

Qualifications

• Strong backend engineering experience with Java and Python.
• Proven track record in API design and integration, especially for platforms connecting to diverse external data sources.
• Deep understanding of data architecture, data integrity principles, and systems ensuring traceability, auditability, and correctness.
• Experience working with climate-tech, carbon markets, ESG, sustainability reporting, or environmental data platforms.
• Familiarity with registries, verification bodies, and standards frameworks such as Verra, Gold Standard, Puro Earth, or ICVCM Core Carbon Principles (preferred).
• Educational qualifications in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related fields (e.g., BSc, MSc, or higher).

Preferred Skills

• Experience working in startups or agile development environments.
• Knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure).
• Strong understanding of environmental data standards and carbon accounting.
• Excellent problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills.
• Previous onsite experience in Singapore or familiarity with the local ecosystem.

Experience

• Minimum of 5+ years of relevant backend engineering and system architecture experience.
• Prior experience in climate-tech, carbon markets, or ESG reporting platforms is highly desirable.

Environment

• The role is based in Singapore, with a preference for candidates with current or previous onsite experience in Singapore.
• The work environment involves collaboration with a dynamic startup team, with potential for hybrid or remote work arrangements.
• The role requires a proactive approach to system design and integration, with an emphasis on data accuracy and compliance.
