SAP ABAP Developer

Job Summary

The SAP ABAP Developer will be responsible for the development and maintenance of SAP applications, interfaces, and programs in an offshore capacity. This role supports SAP work streams—especially FICO—and requires strong technical, analytical, and communication skills to deliver high-quality solutions, resolve issues, and develop new functionalities. The position plays a crucial part in managed projects, ensuring technical tasks are completed on time and providing regular updates to stakeholders, while maintaining a high level of client service and responsiveness.

Responsibilities

  • Code, test, debug, document, and support the SAP Application Suite.
  • Participate in multiple SAP work streams, including FICO, providing development and maintenance support.
  • Address "on call" situations, such as system unavailability, loss of functionality, or emergency break-fix scenarios as part of a team environment.
  • Deliver innovative and efficient solutions to optimize business processes.
  • Collaborate closely with onsite/offshore teams on development objects related to projects, enhancements, and incidents.
  • Participate in managed projects, technical tasks, and ensure timely delivery and communication of status updates.
  • Provide support in SAP Application Development, unit/functional testing, and SAP background job monitoring.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related field.
  • 4-6 years of hands-on experience in SAP ABAP development.
  • Extensive experience with Classical/Interactive Reports, Batch Data Communication (BDC), Remote Function Calls (RFC), logical databases, Module Pool, BAPI (Business Application Programming Interface), SAP Scripts, Smart Forms, and Adobe Forms.
  • Strong abilities in writing and modifying ABAP reports, user exits, Business Add-Ins (BADI), Business Transaction Events (BTE), and dialogue programming.
  • Proven experience in Object Oriented ABAP, including ALV Grids, Tree controls, event handling, split containers, and class interfaces.
  • Experience with SAP Authorization concepts in ABAP and ECC.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical, technical, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities under time constraints.
  • Team-oriented, with strong collaboration and teamwork skills.
  • High level of client service orientation; confident in an international environment.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience working in a cross-functional, international environment.
  • Knowledge of SAP FICO integration points.
  • Exposure to Agile/Scrum methodologies.
  • Additional certifications in SAP ABAP or related SAP modules.
  • Experience with SAP S/4HANA is a plus.

Experience

  • 4-6 years of relevant SAP ABAP development experience.
  • Experience in SAP Application Development, unit/functional testing, and SAP background job monitoring.
  • Exposure to offshore delivery models and collaboration with global teams is an advantage.

Environment

  • Location: Pune, India.
  • Work setting: Offshore role, typically office-based with collaboration across onsite/offshore teams.
  • May involve occasional on-call or extended hours to address urgent support needs.
