Job Summary

The Head of Legal and Compliance is responsible for overseeing all legal affairs and ensuring the organization’s adherence to applicable laws, regulations, and internal policies. This role involves providing legal guidance to senior management, managing compliance programs, and mitigating legal and regulatory risks associated with business operations. The position plays a critical role in fostering a culture of compliance and safeguarding the organization’s interests.

Responsibilities

• Legal Oversight: Provide expert legal guidance on contracts, corporate governance, intellectual property, and employment law. Review and draft legal documents, agreements, and policies to protect organizational interests.
• Compliance Management: Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive compliance programs aligned with regulatory requirements and industry standards. Conduct regular assessments and audits to identify and address compliance gaps.
• Risk Management: Assess and mitigate legal risks related to business decisions and operational activities. Monitor changes in laws and regulations, advising management on necessary adjustments.
• Training and Development: Design and deliver training programs to educate employees on legal and compliance issues. Promote a culture of compliance throughout the organization.
• Collaboration: Work closely with departments such as HR, Finance, and Operations to ensure cohesive compliance efforts. Liaise with external legal counsel and regulatory bodies as needed.
• Reporting: Prepare and present compliance reports to senior management and the board of directors. Maintain accurate records of compliance activities, investigations, and legal proceedings.

Qualifications

• Educational Qualification: LL.B. or equivalent from a recognized institution; LL.M. preferred.
• Experience: 10+ years of legal experience, with significant exposure to the NBFC sector.
• Legal Expertise: Proven experience in handling retail litigation, employee grievances, and legal risk mitigation.
• Regulatory Knowledge: Strong understanding of NBFC regulations, labor laws, and compliance requirements.
• Legal Skills: Excellent legal drafting, negotiation, and communication skills.
• Leadership: Demonstrated ability to lead and manage a team effectively.
• Professional Attributes: High integrity, professionalism, and adherence to ethical standards.
