Job Summary
The Business Development / In - Licensing Head will be crucial in building a structured, high-quality pipeline of external product partnerships targeting unmet surgical needs. This hands-on role is dedicated to identifying gaps in the market, scouting potential products and partners, building a ranked partnership pipeline, and driving deals to closure. The performance of this role will be measured by the quality of the pipeline and the number and value of successfully closed deals.
Responsibilities

Unmet Surgical Need Identification
- Systematically map gaps in the Indian surgical market by specialty, procedure, and care setting.
- Engage with stakeholders, such as surgeons, KOLs (Key Opinion Leaders), and procurement teams to validate and prioritize unmet needs.
- Build and maintain a comprehensive "need map" of the Indian surgical landscape.

Partner & Product Scouting (India & Global)
- Proactively search for product companies in multiple innovation hubs, including India, the US, Europe, Korea, Japan, and China.
- Maintain a structured CRM/tracker of all scouted companies and products.

Pipeline Development & Prioritization
- Build and rank a consolidated partnership pipeline against identified unmet needs.
- Present the ranked pipeline to leadership regularly and adjust rankings based on emerging information.

Commercial & Technical Evaluation
- Lead evaluations of shortlisted products, assessing clinical differentiation, regulatory status, and manufacturing readiness.
- Coordinate with R&D, Regulatory, Quality, and Manufacturing teams to validate product feasibility.

Deal Structuring & Negotiation
- Structure deal terms aligned with Futura's strategic priorities and lead negotiations with partner companies.
- Manage concurrent negotiations while prioritizing based on pipeline ranking.

Deal Closure, In Order of Ranking
- Drive deals to closure, managing the entire end-to-end process.
- Track and report closure velocity against the pipeline plan.

Post-Deal Handover & Partner Relationship Management
- Ensure a smooth handover of closed partnerships to relevant departments for execution.
- Monitor partner performance and continuously feed insights back into the prioritization framework.

Cross-Functional Leadership & Reporting
- Collaborate with various teams to align in-licensing priorities with the overall company strategy.
- Provide structured reporting on need mapping, pipeline statuses, and deliverables to leadership.
Qualifications
- 10+ years of experience in business development, in-licensing, corporate development, or strategic partnerships within the medical devices, surgical products, or pharmaceutical industries.
- Proven track record of sourcing, evaluating, negotiating, and closing licensing or distribution deals.
- Working knowledge of the Indian surgical/hospital ecosystem and experience in identifying clinical unmet needs.
- Exposure to regulatory, manufacturing, and commercial considerations pertinent to medical device licensing.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Life Sciences, or Pharmacy preferred.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to build and defend a prioritization framework.
- Excellent negotiation and commercial skills, with comfort in direct deal closures.
- Robust network across the medtech ecosystem in India and key global markets.
- Self-driven, capable of independently owning a comprehensive mandate, and willing to travel extensively.
Preferred Skills
- Knowledge of clinical differentiation and product viability within the Indian and international markets.
- Familiarity with medtech incubators, industry associations, and venture capital circles.
Experience
- A minimum of 10 years of relevant experience, including significant engagement with international product companies and deal-making in various global markets.
Environment
This role is based in Bangalore, India, with expectations of domestic and international travel.
