Compliance Manager | Scrabble & Jigsaw
Job Description
Compliance Manager
Company Overview
Zomint is building the default financial advisor for India's mass affluent families — those investors with ₹15L–₹1Cr who are too complex for DIY apps, yet too small for private banking. The organization is developing a system-led wealth platform that utilizes artificial intelligence for research, monitoring, and portfolio analysis, complemented by human advisors who provide judgment and behavioral support at critical moments. The overarching goal is to foster consistent, long-term decision-making rather than focusing on short-term gains.
Job Summary
The Compliance Manager will serve as Zomint's first compliance hire, responsible for establishing compliance across the platform. Unlike typical firms that view compliance as a cost center, Zomint treats it as foundational infrastructure. The Compliance Manager will build systems, policies, and a culture that ensure regulatory adherence while supporting business operations. This role requires close collaboration with founders and integration into product and advisory workflows to maintain regulatory readiness.
Responsibilities
- Develop advisor conduct guardrails by defining permissible communications and recommendations based on registration types.
- Create and maintain a compliance program for various SEBI registrations, such as Mutual Fund Distributor (MFD), Registered Investment Advisor (RIA), and others as needed.
- Ensure timely filing of periodic compliance reports with SEBI, AMFI, and BSE, including annual compliance reports, net worth certificates, and ARN renewals.
- Oversee client onboarding processes, including KYC, risk profiling, suitability assessments, and client agreements.
- Implement and manage the Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and Know Your Customer (KYC) programs, adhering to PMLA obligations and managing documentation for CKYC integration.
- Prepare for audits by maintaining a compliance calendar, documentation trails, and readiness for SEBI inspections.
- Review content such as WhatsApp templates, website copy, and advisory reports to ensure compliance with SEBI advertising guidelines.
- Track regulatory updates from SEBI circulars, AMFI notices, and relevant updates from FinMin/DPIIT.
- Conduct vendor due diligence on relevant integrations and third-party data processors.
Qualifications
- Experience: 4–7 years in financial services compliance, including work with Asset Management Companies (AMC), wealth management, SEBI-registered RIA, or FinTech.
- Technical Skills: Hands-on experience with SEBI Investment Adviser Regulations and compliance workflows for MFD/AMFI.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Working knowledge of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), KYC/AML requirements, and Central Know Your Customer (CKYC) procedures.
- Policy Development: Ability to independently draft policies, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), client disclosures, and agreement templates.
- Interpretation Skills: Comfort in navigating ambiguous regulatory environments, interpreting regulations beyond following existing playbooks.
- Communication: Strong documentation and communication skills to effectively relay compliance concepts to engineers, advisors, and founders.
- Ownership Mindset: A strong sense of responsibility regarding regulatory risk management.
Preferred Skills
- NISM Series X-A/X-B (Investment Adviser) certification.
- Experience in building compliance programs from the ground up in an early-stage company.
- Understanding of GIFT City structures, Alternative Investment Funds (AIFs), or contexts surrounding overseas fund distribution (Liberalized Remittance Scheme - LRS).
- Familiarity with AI-assisted advisory tools and the implications for suitability and disclosure norms.
- Background in Company Secretarial (CS) or Law (LLB).
Experience
4–7 years of relevant experience in financial services compliance is required. Experience in a dynamic, early-stage financial environment is preferred.
