Principal Cloud Engineer

Job Summary

The Principal Cloud Engineer will be responsible for designing, implementing, and managing technical solutions in cloud environments, primarily focusing on Microsoft Azure. This role involves leading discussions with stakeholders, conducting technology assessments, and ensuring the scalability and security of solutions. The engineer will also mentor teams, support delivery in resolving critical issues, and contribute to the overall improvement of cloud environments.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for the technical solution, sizing, and implementation/operations approaches as part of day-to-day activities.
• Lead face-to-face conversations regarding cloud solutions with internal and external stakeholders and technology leaders.
• Oversee Proof of Concept (PoC), landscape assessments, and early-stage technology implementation projects, creating and maintaining full-stack solution demonstrations.
• Conduct reviews and technical evaluations of solution architectures to ensure proposed solutions are scalable, robust, and secure.
• Support delivery teams in resolving critical customer-impacting issues, including root-cause identification and preventative measures.
• Act as a trusted advisor and mentor, supporting skilling and thought-leadership programs, and running workshops.
• Collaborate with the Solution Architect Team to optimize cost, efficiency, resiliency, and availability of environments in Azure.
• Employ a strong Project Management approach to track, report, and ensure timely completion of activities, maintaining suitable reporting and dashboards.

Qualifications

• Education: Relevant degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
• Minimum of 5-10 years of relevant experience in a technical role focused on the Microsoft cloud ecosystem.
• Detailed understanding of the Microsoft Cloud, particularly Azure, and how its components work together.
• Hands-on experience in creating winning solutions across technologies, including the Azure Data/AI stack and Microsoft Fabric.
• Familiarity with the Microsoft application modernization stack, including cloud-native architectures and AI UI.
• Relevant Microsoft and industry certifications are preferred.
