Job Description

The Position We are building the next evolution of the Skillz platform, and looking for a talented finance professional to help 10X the business in the next 3years. The role reports to Gaurav Verma, GM of Platform Business and Gaetano Franceschi, Skillz CFO. The Vice President of Finance will be the key #1 Head of Finance for the Platform Business based out of Bangalore. This role has broad responsibilities extending across the core Platform Business. Overall, the VP of Finance is responsible for collaborating with the GM of Platform Business and his team as well as the CFO of Skillz and Corporate functions. The mandate is to create and implement an overall financial strategy and financial reporting infrastructure that drives profitable growth and delivers accurate information on all elements of the Platform Business operations. The VP of Finance role will help drive Revenue growth and Margin expansion, while managing Costs. Specifically the VP of Finance will set aggressive yet achievable KPIs for the Platform business, drive investment allocations based on returns (ie: what resources to spend on what initiatives, yielding what returns), drive improved cost efficiencies, while ensuring compliance with Company level requirements, timelines and expectations. Additionally, the role will leverage financial modeling and forecasting to guide strategic investments that fuel sustainable growth. Business Unit Finance for the Platform Business The VP of Finance will leverage their skills and experience broadly across finance and specifically in leading finance organizations at the BU level to: ● Financial Performance & Profitability: Set aggressive yet achievable Operating Plan targets for NGR (Net Gaming Revenue) and EBITDA for Platform Business for 2026 and beyond ● Forecasting & Budgeting: Forecast within 5% accuracy for NGR and EBITDA for Platform Business ● Business Partnering: Build strong relationship with Platform Business leaders ● Business KPIs: Set clear function level KPIs that are tied to Platform Business financial performance ● Financial Reporting: Build and continuously improve Weekly, Monthly, Quarterly reporting of the Platform Business ● Team Performance Management: Build Finance Talent in BLR, Collaborate with Corporate in a seamless way The Person The ideal candidate is either a current or recent Director, Senior Director or Vice President of Finance or FP&A of a private or publicly held company, ideally in the gaming industry. It is preferred that the candidate has broad finance experience and has progressed from various finance roles into broader finance and financial management roles that have required a strong relationship to the business. In this context, the VP of Finance is more than a purely accounting/finance-oriented finance executive. While the VP of Finance needs to have a solid and sound understanding of financial processes and financial modeling with the proven track record of building and maintaining a highly efficient, strategic and empowered financial organization, our ideal candidate has successfully brought their financial perspective to influencing and directly managing more operational elements of a complex business. The VP of Finance has played a key role in the ongoing success of their financial organization and company. Will have most likely risen through the financial discipline with a focus on FP&A and divisional financial leadership roles. Our finalist candidate will have a proven track record and history of working with businesses to drive profitable growth, through the creation and implementation of strong operational and financial models and controls within a company where an accurate picture of the financial and operational state includes predictive data. Specifically, the VP of Finance will understand what is required for the financial function to become a center of strategic partnership to every business and functional area of the Platform Business. Most importantly, Skillz is a company whose culture is built on personal accountability and action. While the Vice President of Finance will have a small team in the U.S. and in India, this is a hands-on job within a hands-on company. The ideal candidate will represent this quality, and have a track record that demonstrates a bias for action and for personal accountability. Equally important, our finalist candidate must have a career track record that demonstrates the commitment and ability to develop the capabilities within her/his finance organization to not only be highly efficient, but to think through the lens of adding strategic value to the business in addition to delivering the most accurate financial data. Critical Skills / Traits - - - - - - - - - - Thrives in fast-paced environment Durable/Resilient - comfortable transforming disorganization to organization and building from the ground up Results-driven - can own the department’s P&L as an internal entrepreneur and is able to quickly understand a new business and translate it into predictive KPIs Impact-driven - driven by company, team, and personal success Humble - Can roll up sleeves to do jobs as needed at 1 or 2 levels below their role and rapidly train the team members based on personal example High accountability - ability to "raise the bar" and performance manage a strong team Not afraid of conflict - willing to say “no” to bad investments and willing to call people out who do not do what they say they will Strong written and verbal communication skills Proactive / urgent execution style Fluency in process creation, automation, and data Experience - Has led finance functions or sub-function for a multi-hundred-million dollar consumption-based business or business unit (gaming strongly preferred, high-growth tech highly preferred). - - - - 7-10 years of FP&A / BU Finance experience, with advanced financial modeling skills Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, business administration, or a related field; or equivalent education and work experience (MBA preferred). CPA (or equivalent) helpful, but not required. Proficiency in: Google Sheets, Excel, BI Tools such as Tableau Nice to have but not required: SQL, knows how to retrieve data and information from databases such as Snowflake. Compensation The VP Finance will receive an attractive compensation package containing elements of base salary, bonus and equity, with an emphasis on performance-driven rewards.
