Job Summary

The Mainframe System Programmer plays a vital role in the administration and support of zSeries systems within a large, multi-client and multi-vendor environment. This position is aimed at enhancing the zSeries platform through innovative service offerings that meet the evolving needs of customers. The programmer will work collaboratively with a team of technical specialists across various domains including operating systems, databases, telecommunications, and web applications.

Responsibilities

  • Install, propagate, maintain, and support z/OS and related software products on centralized zSeries servers.
  • Master and utilize tools for centralized zSeries servers, including JCL, Scheduler, operations, automation, storage, and the processes for changes and incidents.
  • Monitor system performance and the various components within the environment.
  • Support daily systems maintenance activities and ensure efficient operation.
  • Diagnose complex issues, develop, and implement solutions that meet customer needs.
  • Manage service requests and reported issues, ensuring follow-up until resolution.
  • Create and maintain documentation for technical procedures and solutions.
  • Analyze functional requirements for new needs and service offerings.
  • Develop solutions that improve processes impacting client support.
  • Participate in audits and disaster recovery tests.
  • Provide on-call support as scheduled.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or higher.
  • Experience: Minimum of 6-10 years of relevant IT experience, with at least 5 years specifically in the role of mainframe system programming.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Proficient in HLAsm, REXX / CLIST, TSO / ISPF, JCL, and SMPE.
    • Functional knowledge of z/OS, JES2 products, Storage management tools (backup, archive, Tape Manager, IOGEN), automation, SDSF / IOF, and security products (RACF / TSS / ACF2).
    • Familiarity with system performance monitoring, Sysplex, and debugging tools.
    • General knowledge of mainframe software products such as DB, CICS, IMS.
  • Soft Skills:
    • Excellent organizational skills.
    • Strong team collaboration ability.
    • Autonomous, creative, and proactive mindset.
    • Customer service-focused.

Preferred Skills

  • Knowledge of IBM zSeries (z/OS) platforms is highly desirable.

Experience

  • A minimum of 6-10 years of experience in IT, with significant experience in mainframe environments.

Environment

  • The position operates in a large-scale, multi-client, and multi-vendor environment. Work will be performed in Bangalore with rotational shifts catering to US/Canada time zones.
