Mechanical Durability Test Engineer

Job Summary

The Mechanical Durability Test Engineer will be responsible for conducting on-road durability testing, vehicle-level environmental testing, and abuse case tests for two-wheeler electric vehicles (EVs). This role involves pre- and post-test inspections, failure identification, root cause analysis, and comprehensive reporting. The engineer will manage test data, coordinate with cross-functional teams, and ensure adherence to test standards and procedures to support the development and validation of vehicle durability.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct on-road durability testing, including measurements and inspections.
  • Perform vehicle-level environmental and abuse case testing.
  • Carry out pre- and post-test inspections to identify failures and analyze root causes.
  • Document tests through detailed test reports and raise Failure Investigation Reports (FIR) or bugs in the system.
  • Maintain scheduled service logs and measurement logs for on-road durability (ORD) vehicles and report findings to the manager.
  • Write new test cases to replicate field conditions and failures, ensuring repeatability.
  • Manage test riders and technicians to achieve required test results.
  • Maintain vehicle condition by addressing rider complaints, conducting inspections, repairing mechanical and electrical systems, and recording service and repairs.
  • Create and maintain test standards and procedures tailored to testing needs.
  • Calibrate key test equipment and measurement instruments.
  • Instrument vehicles before tests, collect and analyze data post-test to provide results.
  • Manage test data entry and upkeep.
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams (CFTs) to develop and complete Design Verification Plans (DVPs).

Qualifications

  • Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or related field.
  • Strong understanding of two-wheeler electric vehicle architecture.
  • Technical expertise in vehicle durability testing and environmental testing.
  • Proficient in test data management and technical evaluation through measurements, inspections, and data collection.
  • Knowledge of on-road durability (ORD) and cam drum test standards and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Ability to perform preliminary root cause analysis on vehicle failures.
  • Strong documentation and reporting skills.
  • Experience in managing test teams and coordinating with multiple stakeholders.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with electric vehicle hardware components and mechanical systems.
  • Ability to write and develop new test cases based on field failure data.
  • Familiarity with calibration of test equipment and instrumentation.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in vehicle-level durability testing within the automotive industry.

Environment

  • Full-time position based in Bangalore.
  • Hybrid work mode combining remote and on-site work.
  • Work involves hands-on vehicle testing, inspections, and coordination with test riders and technicians.

Salary

  • Estimated salary: ₹1,800,000 INR per annum.
