Job Summary

The PostgreSQL Database Admin is responsible for managing, supporting, and enhancing PostgreSQL databases. This role involves ensuring optimal performance, configuring monitoring tools, and providing support for architectural planning, migration, and installation of new projects. The ideal candidate will leverage their extensive experience to contribute to the organization’s database operations efficiently.

Responsibilities

• Install and configure PostgreSQL, including Postgres Plus Advanced Server from EnterpriseDB and AWS RDS Aurora PostgreSQL.
• Monitor and alert using PostgreSQL monitoring tools such as PEM from EnterpriseDB.
• Set up, configure, and monitor PostgreSQL binary and logical data replication solutions, including Binary Streaming and Bi-Directional Replication (BDR).
• Collect diagnostics, tune PostgreSQL, and optimize SQL performance.
• Manage and design PostgreSQL clustered environments and handle day-to-day operations, including troubleshooting issues and conducting root cause analysis (RCA).
• Develop and implement disaster recovery and backup plans while strategizing for system upgrades and migrations.

Qualifications

• Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
• Technical Skills:
  • Proficient with PostgreSQL procedural languages (PL/pgSQL, PL/Tcl, PL/Perl, PL/Python).
  • Strong skills in monitoring and observability tools like Splunk and Dynatrace.
  • Proficient with the Linux operating system, particularly Oracle Linux Enterprise.
  • Intermediate understanding of logical and physical data models.
• Experience: A minimum of 10+ years in database administration with focused expertise in PostgreSQL.

Preferred Skills

• Understanding of automation and configuration management tools.
• Experience with cloud platforms, particularly AWS and their database services.
• Excellent communication skills for providing weekly status reports and updates to stakeholders.

Experience

• Minimum of 10+ years of experience in PostgreSQL database administration and related technologies.

Environment

• Based in Pune. Availability is needed for immediate start. The work environment typically includes both operational duties and strategic planning activities.

Salary

• Estimated salary range is $130,000.
