Job Summary

This role ensures databases are run effectively and securely, with a high focus on analyzing and resolving issues within the assigned Service Level Agreement (SLA). The position requires strong ownership of problems, maintaining communication with concerned teams, and collaborative efforts to reach resolutions while adhering to guidelines during production changes.

Responsibilities

  • Administer databases in both on-premise and cloud-based environments.
  • Work extensively with MySQL, Postgres, AWS RDS MySQL, Aurora, Postgres, and Amazon Redshift.
  • Manage OCI environments including DBCS and Autonomous Data Warehouse (ADW).
  • Ensure proactive monitoring of database performance and capacity management.
  • Conduct backups, restores, and implement recovery models while maintaining proactive housekeeping/archiving.
  • Optimize database performance through tuning and using native monitoring tools.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve database-related CPU, memory, I/O, disk space, and other resource contention issues.
  • Implement automation of operational tasks using Shell, Perl, and Python scripts.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 8 to 12 years of relevant database administration experience.
  • In-depth knowledge of Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) services like DBCS and Autonomous services.
  • Familiarity with CLI command line tools, specifically OCI CLI.
  • Strong understanding of database monitoring tools such as SolarWinds DPA, CloudWatch, and Opsgenie.
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex database issues.
  • Experience creating and managing Oracle wallets for password-less access.

Preferred Skills

  • Familiarity with Hadoop environments.
  • Experience in monitoring Oracle databases via SQL Developer and Oracle Management Cloud (OMC).
  • Knowledge of database integrity issues, performance issues, and blocking/deadlocking concerns.

Experience

8 to 12 years of experience in database administration, with hands-on experience in both on-premise and cloud database environments.

This position is remote, allowing flexibility in work location.
