Job Description
Cost Controller
Company Overview
Moxie Beauty is a fast-growing Direct-to-Consumer (D2C) brand that has evolved from an online presence to scaling across various marketplaces, quick commerce, and offline retail. The company operates with a lean team that prioritizes speed and ownership, aiming to build lasting solutions rather than adding complex processes. The finance function plays a critical role in driving profitable growth within the organization.
Job Summary
The Cost Controller is responsible for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of all cost-related financial data. This includes not only the costs associated with product manufacturing but also operational expenses such as marketing, logistics, and software. The role spans the entire D2C Profit and Loss (P&L) statement and encompasses vendor onboarding as well as the procure-to-pay (P2P) process. Responsibilities
- Ensure cost accuracy across the P&L by serving as the single source of truth for all cost lines, including Cost of Goods Sold (COGS), marketing, logistics, and operating expenses.
- Validate contract manufacturer charges, Bill of Materials (BOMs), and landed costs per SKU; maintain an updated costing master to compare standard vs. actual costs while explaining variances.
- Track and control marketing and professional spend by overseeing performance-marketing expenses and agency fees; ensure proper accruals and classification of expenditures.
- Own the end-to-end procure-to-pay (P2P) process including vendor onboarding, purchase order discipline, goods received notes (GRN), invoice processing, and payment workflows.
- Build and manage the operational expense budget while leading monthly budget vs actual comparisons and providing variance analysis.
- Maintain controls over inventory valuation and manage associated financial reporting, ensuring decision-ready cost Management Information Systems (MIS).
Qualifications
- Chartered Accountant (CA) with 2–4 years of relevant experience, or a non-CA with 4–7 years of relevant cost and finance experience.
- Preferably experience in FMCG, Consumer Goods, or D2C environments, with comfort in managing outsourced cost structures.
- Proficient in cost structures related to COGS, marketing, professional charges, logistics, and operational expenses.
- Experience running an end-to-end procure-to-pay process and vendor onboarding.
- Strong proficiency in Excel and financial modeling, and familiarity with ERP systems related to costing and inventory management.
- A high degree of ownership, attention to detail, and a proactive approach in identifying and resolving financial discrepancies.
Preferred Skills
- Background in financial analysis within a startup or unstructured environment.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision.
Experience
- 2–4 years for CA candidates or 4–7 years for non-CA candidates in relevant cost or financial roles.
