Senior HCL Commerce Systems Administrator

Job Summary

We are looking for a highly experienced (8+ years) Senior HCL Commerce Systems Administrator to manage and maintain the infrastructure supporting our HCL Commerce (formerly IBM WebSphere Commerce) platform. The ideal candidate will have deep technical expertise in system administration, HCL Commerce V9+, containerized environments (Docker/Kubernetes), and cloud hosting. This role is critical for ensuring platform stability, performance, scalability, and security. Migration of earlier versions to HCL Commerce version 9 is desired.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the installation, configuration, and maintenance of HCL Commerce environments (development, QA, staging, and production).
• Monitor system performance and ensure high availability, reliability, and scalability of the commerce platform.
• Administer Linux/Unix systems, containers (Docker), and orchestration tools (Kubernetes/OpenShift).
• Manage application servers (WebSphere Liberty, Apache, NGINX), databases (DB2, Oracle, or MySQL), and other supporting infrastructure.
• Implement security best practices, including patch management, vulnerability scanning, and access control.
• Collaborate with development, DevOps, and security teams to support CI/CD processes, deployment automation, and incident response.
• Troubleshoot system-level issues and provide root cause analysis for infrastructure-related outages.
• Maintain documentation of architecture, procedures, and configurations.
• Support disaster recovery planning and backup/restore procedures.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
• 8+ years of experience as a systems administrator, with at least 4+ years supporting HCL Commerce (or IBM WebSphere Commerce) environments.
• Strong experience with Linux (RHEL/CentOS/Ubuntu) system administration.
• Hands-on experience with HCL Commerce V9, including microservices, containerization, and Docker/Kubernetes-based deployment.
• Proficiency in shell scripting, Ansible, or similar automation tools.
• Experience in performance tuning, configuration management.
• Experience in building environments from scratch.
• Familiarity with monitoring tools (Prometheus, Grafana, New Relic, ELK stack).
• Solid understanding of networking concepts, firewalls, and load balancers.
• Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Skills

• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
• Familiarity with CI/CD tools like Jenkins, GitLab CI, or Bamboo.
• Certifications in Linux, Kubernetes, or HCL Commerce are a plus.
