Job Summary

We are seeking a Platform Engineer who can take ownership of our systems from backend application code through to the cloud infrastructure. This role goes beyond the traditional build-and-deploy function; the candidate will formalize how we build and operate software, introduce scalable engineering practices, and help evolve the organization’s engineering maturity as we grow. The position involves leading the DevOps efforts, collaborating closely with the Engineering Manager to set standards for infrastructure, deployment, and operations.

Responsibilities

• End-to-End Ownership: Manage backend services and the cloud platform, ensuring high standards of quality and operability.
• Process & Structure: Develop and implement engineering practices, including branching strategies, testing standards, code reviews, and incident management.
• Raising Standards: Advocate for improved methodologies, justifying enhancements and driving their adoption within the team.
• Lead DevOps: Collaborate with the Engineering Manager to create and execute the DevOps roadmap, translating engineering needs into infrastructure and tooling investments.
• Evolving the Organization: Partner with the engineering team to enhance planning, estimation, and delivery, ensuring greater visibility and predictability.

Qualifications

• Experience: 4+ years in backend development and DevOps/cloud infrastructure, including production ownership.
• Technical Skills:
  • Proficient in at least one backend language (Java/Spring Boot, Python, or equivalent) with experience in a microservices architecture.
  • Deep understanding of REST API design and backend system integrations.
  • Hands-on experience with AWS and Azure, Kubernetes, Docker, and CI/CD tools (Jenkins or similar).
  • Solid knowledge of cloud deployment models, networking, IAM/access control, and environment configuration.
  • Familiarity with Git-based workflows and strong debugging skills.
  • Experience with coding agents/AI tooling for improved delivery practices.

Preferred Skills

• Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation.
• Knowledge of monitoring and logging solutions (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, CloudWatch).
• Experience with API gateways, load balancers, and autoscaling strategies.
• Proficient in database technologies (PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, Redis).
• Understanding of Helm charts and advanced Kubernetes deployment strategies.
• Knowledge of security best practices for backend services and cloud infrastructure.

Experience

• Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience in backend engineering and DevOps/cloud infrastructure.
