Credit Manager (MSME)

Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Credit Manager to join our team in Mumbai. The ideal candidate will have a passion for credit management and the ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders. This role focuses on assessing borrower profiles, underwriting MSME loans up to ₹1 crore, and ensuring adherence to credit policies to support the organization’s lending goals.

Responsibilities

  • Assess borrower profiles, repayment capacity, and income stability for MSME loan applications.
  • Conduct site visits to business premises, properties, and customer residences during the pre-disbursement (PD) stage.
  • Analyze actual business income and expenses beyond reported figures to understand customer financial health.
  • Understand customer business operations and requirements from their perspective.
  • Evaluate creditworthiness and repayment intention through document analysis, observations, and findings from PD.
  • Study, analyze, and interpret legal and technical property reports as well as internal check reports.
  • Underwrite and sanction business loans/MSME loan files sourced by the sales team.
  • Address post-sanction conditions prior to disbursement based on queries raised by the team.
  • Recommend cases to supervisors for decisions based on deviation or approval matrix.
  • Coordinate and communicate effectively with different departments.
  • Maintain turnaround time (TAT) as per guidelines and drive cases to decision points.
  • Adhere strictly to policies and processes laid out by the Central team for all loan applications.
  • Monitor non-starters and first EMI bounce trends closely.
  • Maintain and report various Management Information Systems (MIS) to monitor portfolio performance and risk.
  • Continuously improve underwriting capabilities based on portfolio performance insights.

Qualifications

  • Graduate degree required.
  • 4-6 years of relevant experience in credit management, preferably in MSME or affordable home segments.
  • Strong knowledge of credit assessment and underwriting processes.
  • Ability to analyze financial documents and business operations critically.
  • Proficient in interpreting legal and technical property reports.
  • Excellent communication and coordination skills.
  • Strong analytical and decision-making abilities.
  • Ability to work independently as an individual contributor.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience in affordable home segment lending.
  • Familiarity with credit risk monitoring and portfolio performance analysis.
  • Knowledge of internal control and compliance processes related to loan underwriting.

Experience

  • 4 to 6 years of experience in credit assessment, underwriting, or related roles within financial services, preferably handling MSME or business loans.

  • Work location: Mumbai.
