Job Summary
The Middleware Administrator – IBM MQ position focuses on the administration and configuration of IBM Messaging systems, primarily IBM MQ, to ensure maximum uptime for production systems. This role requires self-motivation and technical proficiency, along with effective troubleshooting abilities. The Middleware Administrator will be responsible for the performance, availability, and scalability of the infrastructure.
Responsibilities
- Administer, install, and configure IBM MQ in both standalone and clustered environments for multiple clients.
- Manage, configure, and monitor MQ Listeners, Command Servers, Channel initiators, Trigger Monitors, MQ Log files, and Dead Letter Queues.
- Modify and redesign configurations/applications to resolve identified issues.
- Set up security on IBM WebSphere MQ servers, queues, and applications accessing these services.
- Provide impact analysis on newer versions and plan upgrades for servers, including the appropriate versions and patches of IBM WebSphere MQ.
- Collaborate with various technology teams, developers, and vendors to manage new landscape setups.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field is preferred.
- Experience: 8-12+ years supporting Middleware technologies, specifically IBM technologies on Unix and Windows operating systems.
- Technical Skills:
- Strong proficiency in IBM MQ Administration.
- Experience with Administration and Troubleshooting of IBM MQ File Transactions, including knowledge of Control - M batch processing.
- Familiar with applying security layers between MQ Queue Managers and Agents.
- Experience deploying Bar files, IIB, Pub-Sub, and applying security.
- Proficient in scripting (Shell, Python) and web technologies.
- Understanding of queues, FTP, SFTP, HTTP protocols, and debug flows.
- Knowledge of mqsi commands on Integration Bus (IIB).
- Experienced with MQ Clusters, SSL Configuration, and MQ Monitoring tools.
- Soft Skills:
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
- Effective communication and teamwork capabilities.
- Ability to work independently and lead a team.
Preferred Skills
- Knowledge of capacity analysis at a senior level.
- Familiarity with RDQM (Rational Data Queue Manager).
- Experience with MQ in cloud environments.
- Mentoring and training experience.
Experience
- A minimum of 8-12 years of experience in Middleware technologies, with a strong focus on IBM MQ across various platforms.
Environment
- Flexibility to work in various shifts, including night shifts and weekends, as part of a rotational support team.
- Responsibilities may require handling customer-reported issues and working under pressure during incident management.
