Job Description

Job Purpose

To independently conduct credit audits for Retail and SME portfolios, evaluate the adequacy and effectiveness of credit processes, ensure regulatory and internal policy compliance, and identify credit risks and control gaps. The role involves conducting on‑site/off‑site reviews, preparing audit reports, recommending corrective actions, and supporting continuous improvement in credit governance.

Key Responsibilities

1. Audit Planning & Execution

·       Conduct end‑to‑end audits of Retail and SME credit processes—sourcing, appraisal, verification, approval, disbursement, and monitoring.

·       Review credit proposals for adherence to internal credit norms, RBI guidelines, and risk appetite parameters.

·       Perform sample testing of loan files, documentation quality, KYC/AML compliance, collateral valuation, and risk grading.

·       Evaluate credit underwriting standards, deviations, exceptions, and risk mitigation measures.

2. Risk Assessment & Control Evaluation

·       Identify process gaps, operational risks, and non‑compliance issues across the credit lifecycle.

·       Assess the effectiveness of internal controls, due diligence practices, and portfolio monitoring mechanisms.

·       Review early warning indicators, delinquency trends, and portfolio behaviour to identify emerging risks.

3. Reporting & Documentation

·       Prepare audit reports highlighting findings, root causes, risk severity, and actionable recommendations.

·       Present audit outcomes to senior management and track closure of audit observations.

·       Maintain comprehensive audit work papers, evidence files, and documentation as per audit standards.

4. Stakeholder Management

·       Coordinate with Credit, Risk, Operations, Collections, and Business teams to gather information and clarify issues.

·       Engage with senior stakeholders to discuss process improvements and control enhancements.

5. Compliance & Governance

·       Ensure compliance with RBI regulations, internal credit policies, SOPs, and industry best practices.

·       Validate adherence to credit delegation frameworks and approval hierarchies.

6. Continuous Improvement

·       Recommend process optimisations to strengthen credit quality and reduce operational risks.

·       Provide inputs for revising credit appraisal formats, policy updates, and risk assessment tools.
