Company Overview
Manubhai Jewellers is a Mumbai-based jewellery retailer generating approximately ₹1,400+ Cr in revenue, with around 400 employees today, growing to 500+ across the next 18 months. Founded over 30 years ago and now in its third generation, MJ operates two large-format flagship stores in Borivali and Thane, with a third opening in late 2026 and a fourth under negotiation. The company is currently transitioning from a founder-driven business to a leadership-led institution, with new senior leaders joining across Sales, Finance, Product, and Marketing.
Job Summary
We are seeking a Head of Human Resources to lead the people, culture, and HR systems at Manubhai Jewellers as we scale. This senior leadership role will report directly to the Managing Director and work alongside peers from Sales, Finance, and Product. The primary focus will be on governance, judgment, and cultural leadership as the organization transitions to a more structured environment. You will evaluate the current HR team and operations to ensure alignment with MJ's growth.
Responsibilities
- People Strategy and Organisation Design: Lead the development of the people strategy as MJ scales, including manpower planning and organizational structure.
- Culture Custodianship: Protect and enhance MJ's culture, translating core values into observable behaviors and reinforcing respect across all levels.
- Leadership Development: Enhance leadership capabilities across all management levels and build programs for effective feedback and performance accountability.
- Succession Planning: Create a visible leadership pipeline by identifying successors for critical roles and tracking succession readiness.
- Talent Acquisition: Oversee hiring strategies and execution, utilizing modern sourcing tools and ensuring alignment with MJ's cultural values.
- HR Function Leadership: Govern the entire HR function including all verticals like recruitment, payroll, compliance, and learning and development.
- Performance Management: Own performance management processes ensuring fairness, documentation, and accountability.
- Learning and Development: Lead L&D initiatives, especially in sales, ensuring effective onboarding, training, and skill development for all employees.
- Internal HR Communication: Develop clear communication strategies regarding HR initiatives to enhance understanding and engagement within the organization.
- Employer Branding: Strengthen MJ's employer profile across various platforms, ensuring authentic representation and positive candidate experiences.
- HR Analytics and Budget Governance: Maintain oversight of HR metrics and budgets, tracking key performance indicators related to people outcomes.
Qualifications
- Experience: 10 to 15 years of HR experience, with at least 4 to 5 years leading the HR function at a senior level, managing a function with 300+ employees.
- Education: MBA or PGDM in Human Resources. Certifications like SHRM, CIPD, or similar are a plus.
- Skills: In-depth understanding of Indian labour law, HRMS platforms (HR-One or equivalent), modern recruitment technologies, performance management systems, and talent acquisition operations.
- Background: Preferred experience in premium retail, luxury services, hospitality, banking with a strong service culture, or family businesses undergoing institutionalisation.
Preferred Skills
- Experience in the jewellery industry (not essential but a plus).
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to navigate ambiguity in founder-led environments.
- Expertise in culture-centric HR practices rather than solely process-oriented.
Experience
10 to 15 years of HR experience is required, with a focus on leadership roles and managing substantial team sizes.
Environment
The position is based in Mumbai and involves full-time in-office work. The individual will operate in a dynamic, growth-focused culture with a strong emphasis on people engagement.
Salary
CTC band: ₹25 - 40 lakh, calibrated to candidate seniority and fit.
