Job Summary

The Vice President of Engineering will lead the technical architecture and engineering excellence for an AI-native software platform. This role will oversee the transition from a project-centric to a product-centric delivery model and is responsible for building a high-performing engineering culture characterized by merit, ownership, and decentralized decision-making.

Responsibilities

  • Architecture & Technical Strategy (45%):

    • Design and execute the transition from monolithic project-based architecture to a modular, product-centric platform.
    • Lead decisions on technology stack, data architecture, AI/ML infrastructure, and cloud partnerships (AWS/Azure/GCP).
    • Define API contracts, data models, and integration patterns that enable autonomous pod delivery.
    • Establish engineering standards for code quality, testing, deployment, observability, and security scanning.
    • Lead architecture reviews and decision-making within the pod steering committee.
    • Contribute technically to complex problem-solving while participating in architecture decisions, code reviews, and incident response.
  • Team Building & Leadership (35%):

    • Build a lean, AI-native engineering team culture through smart hiring, onboarding, and mentorship.
    • Drive engineering practices that include retrospectives, technical deep-dives, and knowledge sharing.
  • Execution & Delivery (20%):

    • Own quarterly planning and capacity allocation across pods.
    • Ensure Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and delivery timelines are met for projects.
    • Drive continuous improvement by measuring velocity, quality metrics, and engineer satisfaction.

Qualifications

  • Core Competencies:

    • 10+ years of experience building large-scale systems; 4+ years in a leadership role with a team of 8 or more.
    • Deep systems thinking involving data pipelines, API design, multi-tenant architectures, and cloud infrastructure.
    • Fluency in AI/ML: understanding capabilities, constraints, and integration patterns.
    • Product mindset: ability to understand how technical decisions impact user outcomes and business KPIs.
    • Experience thriving in flat organizational structures that value merit over hierarchy.
    • Proven operational excellence with process discipline without unnecessary bureaucracy.
  • Proven Track Record:

    • Experience in building or scaling engineering teams to 15+ members.
    • Led transformations from project to product or from services to Software as a Service (SaaS).
    • Experienced in large-scale deployments, especially in regulated or mission-critical systems.
    • Demonstrated track record of shipping products that customers actively use.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with digital transformation or public sector projects.
  • Background in India’s startup ecosystem.
  • Familiarity with multi-stakeholder environments (government, Public Sector Units, or large enterprises).

Experience

  • Minimum of 10+ years with a strong emphasis on large-scale system development and 4+ years of leadership experience.
