Job Summary
The Data Governance Analyst will support the discovery, documentation, and operationalization of data governance processes for foundational data governance initiatives. This role is crucial in assessing, drafting policies, designing access controls, cataloging metadata, and enabling stewardship, primarily using Microsoft Purview and Azure SQL.
Responsibilities
- Conduct current state assessment including data asset inventory, data flows, and ownership structures.
- Define data domains, assign stewards, and prepare RACI matrices.
- Draft data governance policies, particularly concerning data privacy, access control, and quality.
- Document and implement role-based access control (RBAC) using Microsoft Purview.
- Assist in creating and enriching data catalogs, glossaries, and classification taxonomies.
- Apply encryption and data masking policies aligned with sensitivity classifications.
- Track and manage data lineage utilizing Microsoft Purview.
- Define and document key data quality metrics, business rules, and stewardship assignments.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to validate metadata and data dictionaries.
- Maintain comprehensive documentation and support final deliverable handover.
Qualifications
- Strong experience in data governance frameworks, policy creation, and implementation.
- Hands-on experience with Microsoft Purview, including:
- RBAC configuration
- Role-based access policies
- Metadata ingestion and data catalog creation
- Data lineage tracking
- Application of encryption and data masking policies
- Proficiency in Azure SQL Managed Instance environments.
- Understanding of data stewardship, domain management, and quality monitoring.
- Ability to conduct stakeholder interviews and document business/technical requirements.
Preferred Skills
- Knowledge of Microsoft Information Protection (MIP) and Data Loss Prevention (DLP) policy integration.
- Exposure to Agile project delivery and sprint-based execution.
- Experience working in regulated or compliance-heavy environments.
