Manager - NPD & Automation

Job Summary

As an NPD (New Product Development) and Packaging Manager, you will collaborate with internal and external teams to design, procure, and deliver NPD projects, including process, utilities, and packaging equipment. This role encompasses the entire project lifecycle from planning and capital expenditure (capex) preparation to operationalization, ensuring that projects meet quality, safety, and productivity targets.

Responsibilities

  • Participation in NPD meetings: Attend and represent Manufacturing in NPD meetings, convert product concepts into feasible designs, and design end-to-end manufacturing processes.
  • Manufacturing process design: Identify suitable manufacturing equipment and vendors, ensure timely installation and commissioning, and deliver production volumes as per launch plans.
  • Equipment sizing and selection: Size processes and utilities, ensure the integration of electrical and automation systems, and select energy-efficient equipment.
  • Project execution: Prepare end-to-end capex, create project layouts, and monitor project progress while ensuring compliance with safety standards.
  • Procurement and vendor coordination: Float inquiries, complete technical bids, and coordinate with the procurement team for commercial discussions.
  • Site safety and compliance: Provide technical input during execution, ensure compliance with safety standards, and follow up on statutory approvals.
  • Monitoring and control: Monitor capex spending, review contractor performance, and develop risk management plans.
  • Financial modelling and budgeting: Conduct financial modelling, manage capital budgets, and ensure project delivery within the approved budget.
  • Technology and innovation: Implement the latest technologies, identify automation opportunities, and ensure machines meet safety and efficiency standards.
  • Expected deliverables: Achieve ‘Zero Injury’ at the project site and ensure successful project execution within timelines, scope, and budget.

Qualifications

  • Education: Graduate in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering with project experience.
  • Experience:
    • 10+ years in Operations, Maintenance, and Project Management for Green and Brownfield projects in FMCG, Pharma, and Chemical industries.
    • Expertise in project management from planning to execution for small to medium facilities.
    • Strong knowledge of high-speed flexible packaging machines and various laminates.
    • Familiarity with industry safety standards and environmental management.
    • Understanding of IoT, Industry 4.0, and data capture in manufacturing.
    • Proficient in risk assessment and project planning tools (MS Project, Zoho) and MS Office (Excel, AutoCAD).
