Job Summary

We are seeking a highly experienced Modernization Architect with a strong background in COBOL/RPG development. This role focuses on the modernization of IBM i (AS400) green-screen banking applications. The ideal candidate will possess deep knowledge of the IBM i system and an understanding of how legacy business logic integrates with backend data and frontend modernization efforts.

Responsibilities

• Analyze and evaluate legacy IBM i (AS400) COBOL/RPG applications.
• Translate legacy green-screen programs into modular, maintainable components.
• Collaborate with solution architects to align legacy code logic with modernization patterns.
• Work with middleware teams to define data contracts and business logic exposures.
• Write and optimize SQL queries against IBM DB2/400.
• Support Quality Assurance (QA) and front-end teams by explaining backend logic and data behaviors.
• Participate in code walk-throughs and assist with integration validations.

Qualifications

• Experience: Minimum of 12 years in software development, with at least 6 years in COBOL and 3 years as an architect.
• Technical Skills:
  • Strong experience with COBOL, RPG, and Control Language (CL) on IBM i (AS400) systems.
  • Hands-on experience with DB2/400, including complex queries, joins, and stored procedures.
  • Familiarity with green-screen User Interface (UI) flow and associated business processes.
  • Ability to document legacy functionality and assist with rule extraction.
  • Exposure to REST API integration and understanding of middleware concepts (preferred).

Preferred Skills

• Familiarity with backend integrations and middleware platforms.
• Experience in front-end modernization technologies.

Experience

• Minimum of 12 years of professional experience, including significant roles in COBOL/RPG development and architecture.

Environment

• This position is a remote role working at 50% capacity (4 hours per day).

Salary

• Budget is 1.4 LPM + GST.
