Director of Software Engineering

Job Summary

The Director of Software Engineering will provide leadership across multiple engineering teams, ensuring end-to-end software delivery for critical platforms and products. This role involves owning execution and delivery predictability while maintaining high engineering standards and quality. The Director will play a key role in translating business goals into actionable technical plans, fostering a culture of engineering excellence, and collaborating cross-functionally to align with product and architectural goals.

Responsibilities

• Engineering Leadership & Delivery: Lead multiple engineering teams, ensuring timely and quality software delivery across platforms and products using Agile, Scrum, and Kanban methodologies.
• Technical Excellence & Architecture: Provide hands-on technical leadership, focusing on system design and architecture while driving best practices in software scalability, security, and reliability.
• Hands-On Contribution: Maintain coding skills to contribute to prototyping, critical paths, and debugging efforts, as well as guiding teams through complex refactors and modernization projects.
• People & Talent Leadership: Build and mentor high-performing teams, promoting a culture of accountability, continuous learning, and excellence in engineering practices.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work with product management and other departments to align on project priorities and manage stakeholder communications regarding delivery status and technical decisions.

Qualifications

• Experience: 12+ years in software engineering, with a minimum of 5 years in senior engineering leadership roles.
• Technical Skills:
  • Strong hands-on coding experience with modern programming languages, such as Java, Python, React, MongoDB, MySQL, Dart, and Django.
  • Deep understanding of system design, APIs, and cloud-native architectures.
  • Experience with Agile delivery practices and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) and microservices architectures.
  • Expertise in leading SaaS or platform-based products at scale.
• Leadership Skills: Ability to balance technical depth with execution and business impact, leading teams effectively while fostering trust and respect.

Preferred Skills

• Experience with high-availability, high-performance, or data-intensive systems.
• A strong product mindset for making pragmatic trade-offs.

Experience

• A minimum of 12 years of experience in software engineering, including 5 years in senior leadership roles.
