Job Description
Engineering Manager
Job Summary
We are looking for an Engineering Manager with a strong backend pedigree to lead a cross-functional team of backend and frontend engineers. You will own the full product engineering lifecycle—from green field architecture and ground-up development through to production operations at scale industrial AI SaaS platform, which powers real-time decision automation across various sectors. This role demands someone who can write production-grade Java, run tight Scrum ceremonies, and make sound architectural calls under startup-speed timelines.
Responsibilities
- Own the design and development of backend platform built on Java 21+ and Spring Boot 4.x, including RESTful and gRPC APIs, microservices decomposition, event-driven pipelines, and integration layers.
- Architect for scale, reliability, and low latency, designing services to handle high-throughput streams from industrial IoT sensors and vision cameras.
- Drive API design standards and ensure backend services expose well-versioned, idempotent, and backward-compatible interfaces.
- Lead end-to-end product builds from the ground up, translating product requirements into technical architecture and breaking them into epics and stories.
- Collaborate closely with frontend engineers to maintain a cohesive full-stack development workflow.
- Manage cloud infrastructure decisions across multi-cloud deployments and on-premises installations, balancing cost, compliance, and latency requirements.
Qualifications
- Education: B.Tech / M.Tech in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Experience: 8–10 years of total software engineering experience with a strong backend focus, of which at least 2 years in a Tech Lead, Engineering Lead, or Engineering Manager role.
- Technical Skills: Deep hands-on expertise in Java (17+) and the Spring ecosystem, experience designing and building microservices architectures, RESTful APIs, and database layers.
- Management Skills: Proven track record of building applications from the ground up and leading teams of both backend and frontend engineers.
- DevOps Knowledge: Strong experience with CI/CD processes, Docker, Kubernetes, and at least one major cloud platform (AWS preferred).
- System Design Principles: Solid understanding of caching strategies, load balancing, and high-availability patterns.
- Communication Skills: Excellent ability to articulate technical trade-offs to product and business stakeholders.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with industrial IoT, manufacturing systems, or integration with factory-floor protocols.
- Familiarity with Python for scripting, data pipelines, or lightweight services.
- Exposure to AI / ML serving infrastructure and how it integrates with backend systems.
- Familiarity with Infrastructure-as-Code practices and performance engineering.
Experience
- Minimum of 8–10 years of experience in software engineering, including leadership experience.
Environment
The typical work setting is in a fast-paced start-up environment, which may include a mix of in-office and remote work, depending on company policies. The role involves managing both backend and frontend development teams while fostering collaboration.
