Job Summary
The Corporate Head – Human Resources will be responsible for developing and executing the organization’s comprehensive people strategy across 8 manufacturing locations, overseeing a workforce of over 1,800 employees. This role combines strategic HR leadership with hands-on plant HR and industrial relations management, aiming to enhance manpower productivity, optimize employee costs, ensure statutory compliance, and foster a high-performance manufacturing culture. The incumbent will work closely with the Managing Directors, Plant Heads, and functional leaders to drive operational excellence and HR transformation within a manufacturing environment specializing in steel components.
Responsibilities
- HR Strategy & Leadership: Develop and implement organization-wide HR strategies, standardize HR systems and policies across all plants, and establish HR dashboards and KPIs focusing on manpower, costs, attrition, and compliance.
- Employee Cost & Compensation: Design and revise salary structures and bands, lead annual compensation reviews, and optimize employee costs as a percentage of sales and production without compromising compliance or talent retention.
- Manpower Planning & Optimization: Create annual manpower plans, conduct manpower audits, and reduce surplus manpower through multi-skilling, automation, shift optimization, and Time & Motion studies.
- HR Policies & Compliance: Standardize HR policies related to recruitment, leave, discipline, POSH, contractor management, and ensure full compliance with central and state labor laws, including PF, ESI, gratuity, bonus, and wages.
- Industrial Relations: Manage union and worker relations, handle grievances and negotiations, prevent disputes and unauthorized stoppages, and maintain positive relationships with labor authorities.
- Recruitment & Talent Development: Drive plant and corporate hiring initiatives, build talent pipelines, develop succession plans, and improve metrics such as time-to-fill, cost-per-hire, and employee retention.
- Training & Performance Management: Conduct training needs analysis, implement skill-matrix programs, and establish a performance management system linked to KRAs, increments, and promotions.
- Workplace Standards & 5S: Lead 5S implementation, conduct audits, maintain housekeeping standards, and coordinate environmental initiatives with EHS.
- Contractor Management: Oversee contractor labor compliance, documentation, and optimize costs and productivity.
- HR Audit & Continuous Improvement: Implement structured HR audits across manpower, payroll, compliance, and IR processes to identify areas for ongoing improvement.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in HR, Personnel Management, Industrial Relations, Business Administration; MBA/PGDM in HR preferred.
- 15–20+ years of HR experience in labor-intensive manufacturing sectors such as steel, engineering, automotive components, foundry, or heavy engineering.
- Proven experience managing 1,800+ employees across multiple plants.
- Strong exposure to union management, contractor oversight, and statutory compliance.
- Hands-on experience with Time & Motion studies and manpower rationalization.
- Excellent knowledge of central and state labor laws, employee benefits, and compliance standards.
- Demonstrated ability to lead HR transformation initiatives in a manufacturing environment.
