Job Summary

As a Senior Software Engineer at Skillz, you will report directly to the Director of Engineering and spearhead the technical vision and strategy for the organization. Your role is integral to shaping the technical direction of our engineering organization, supporting the growth of our core business, and exploring new, exciting domains. You’ll have a significant impact by building scalable, high-performance, low-latency applications in a fast-paced, innovative environment.

Responsibilities

• Technical Leadership: Shape technical direction and strategy by collaborating with engineering leadership and cross-functional teams.
• System Development: Build, develop, and maintain distributed systems using Java or Golang, ensuring robust performance and scalability.
• Performance Optimization: Design and optimize low-latency, high-performance real-time systems, including the implementation of caching mechanisms (e.g., Redis, Memcached) and relational databases.
• Innovation: Venture into new, exciting domains within gaming and related services, continuously seeking innovative solutions.
• Collaboration: Work closely with team members to drive a culture of excellence, feedback, and continuous improvement.
• Operational Excellence: Ensure that systems are reliable, secure, and efficiently deployed, with a focus on cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.

Qualifications

• Technical Expertise: 4+ years of professional experience in Java or Golang.
• Distributed Systems: Solid experience with building and maintaining distributed systems and utilizing caching mechanisms like Redis and Memcached.
• Real-Time Applications: Proven track record in developing low-latency, high-performance real-time systems.
• Cloud Platforms: Strong proficiency with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
• Containerization: Hands-on experience with container orchestration technologies such as Kubernetes (good to have).
• Educational Background: A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field is preferred.
• Industry Insight: Experience in the gaming industry is preferred, though a strong passion for initiatives powering games is also valued.

Preferred Skills

• Prior experience working in the gaming industry.
• Advanced knowledge of container orchestration technologies such as Kubernetes or equivalent.
• Passion for innovating within the gaming space and developing services that enhance gameplay and player engagement.

Experience

• A minimum of 4+ years of professional experience in software engineering with a focus on Java or Golang.
• Demonstrable experience in building distributed systems, developing caching solutions, and managing real-time system performance.
• Prior experience working in cloud environments (AWS, Azure, GCP) and familiarity with container orchestration is beneficial.

• Location: IWF Campus, Whitefield Main Rd, B Narayanapura, Mahadevapura, Bengaluru, Karnataka 560016.
