Job Summary

The Mainframe System Programmer is a pivotal role within the organization, responsible for the administration and support of zSeries systems in a complex, multi-client environment. This position is integral to the evolution of the zSeries platform, focusing on developing scalable and innovative service offerings that cater to both current and future customer needs. The programmer will collaborate with technical specialists across various domains to enhance service delivery and system performance.

Responsibilities

  • Install, propagate, maintain, and support z/OS and related software products on centralized zSeries servers.
  • Master the tools of centralized zSeries servers, including JCL, Scheduler, operation, Automation, Storage, printing, and incident management.
  • Monitor system performance and ensure the functionality of different components.
  • Support daily systems maintenance activities and perform problem determination and resolution.
  • Diagnose complex problems and implement customer-focused solutions.
  • Manage service requests and reported issues, following up until resolution.
  • Create and maintain technical procedures and documentation for solutions.
  • Analyze new needs and service offerings functional requirements.
  • Develop solutions to enhance processes affecting client support.
  • Participate in audits and disaster recovery tests.
  • Provide on-call support as scheduled.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or higher.

  • Experience: Minimum of 6 years of relevant experience in IT, with at least 10 years preferred.

  • Technical Skills:

    • Excellent knowledge of HLAsm, REXX / CLIST, TSO / ISPF, JCL, SMPE.
    • Functional knowledge of z/OS, JES2 products, Storage management, Monitors, automation tools like SDSF / IOF, RACF / TSS / ACF2, and Sysplex.
    • General knowledge of mainframe products such as DB, CICS, IMS, and other related software.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Soft Skills:

    • Excellent organizational skills.
    • Strong team collaboration abilities.
    • Autonomy, creativity, and proactivity.
    • A keen focus on customer service.

Preferred Skills

  • Additional familiarity with disaster recovery processes and on-call support frameworks.

Experience

  • 6-10 years of relevant IT experience, specifically in mainframe environments.

Environment

  • The position is based in Bangalore and requires working in rotational shifts to accommodate US and Canada time zones.
