Job Summary

The Engineer/Senior Engineer - SCM E-Components Import is responsible for the comprehensive management of electronic component imports, import logistics, customs compliance, and local subcontracting with Electronics Manufacturing Services (EMS) partners. This role is pivotal in ensuring timely material availability and supply chain resilience, particularly for Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) and Electric Vehicle (EV) programs.

Responsibilities

  • Electronic Component (E-Component) Import Management:

    • Manage the entire import lifecycle for various electronic components including Integrated Circuits (ICs), Microcontrollers (MCUs), and EV-specific parts.
    • Track global component availability and coordinate with suppliers and authorized distributors.
    • Manage purchase orders, delivery schedules, and expedite actions for critical shortages.
    • Conduct regular supplier reviews to drive corrective actions for quality and delivery issues.
    • Maintain an Approved Vendor List (AVL) and support sourcing qualifications.
  • Import Logistics & Customs Compliance:

    • Coordinate logistics for air, sea, and courier shipments, ensuring accuracy of import documentation.
    • Monitor customs clearance and resolve any issues with customs authorities.
    • Maintain cost trackers and analyze deviations for optimization.
    • Collaborate with Finance on import payment remittances.
  • Local Subcontract / EMS Management:

    • Track purchase orders and build schedules with EMS partners.
    • Manage ECN/PCN implementations at EMS levels to ensure BOM revision control.
    • Identify and qualify new EMS partners to enhance capacity and capability.
  • Cross-functional & Reporting:

    • Maintain import and subcontract data in ERP and share real-time visibility with the team.
    • Generate supply chain reports and participate in material review meetings.

Qualifications

  • Education:

    • B.E./B.Tech in Electronics, Electrical, or Mechanical/Industrial Engineering.
    • MBA (Supply Chain/Operations) preferred for Senior Engineer position.
  • Experience:

    • Engineer: 2 – 4 years in import sourcing, logistics coordination, or EMS management within automotive/electronics.
    • Senior Engineer: 4 – 8 years with significant ownership of import programs and EMS partner management, preferably with EV/ADAS component experience.
  • Technical Skills:

    • E-component sourcing knowledge and familiarity with semiconductor supply chains.
    • Understanding of EMS/PCB assembly processes including SMT and functional testing.
    • Knowledge of APQP/PPAP and IATF 16949 quality requirements.
    • Proficiency in SAP or equivalent ERP systems, and advanced Excel/Google Sheets.
  • Soft Skills:

    • Strong negotiation and supplier management abilities.
    • Analytical mindset with multitasking skills and the ability to work under pressure.
    • Excellent communication skills in English with cross-cultural understanding.
    • Problem-solving orientation with a focus on root-cause analysis.

Preferred Skills

  • Prior experience in EV E-component sourcing.
  • Exposure to free trade agreements and component obsolescence management.

Experience

  • Engineer: 2 – 4 years in relevant fields.
  • Senior Engineer: 4 – 8 years of advanced experience in import program management.

Environment

  • The position is full-time and onsite in Bangalore, Karnataka.
  • General working hours are 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM (IST) with necessary flexibility to accommodate overseas coordination.
  • Occasional travel within India and international travel for supplier audits may be required.
