Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Lead Engineer to own the technical correctness and resilience of all fiat payment systems across the platform. This role will focus on designing and maintaining highly reliable systems responsible for deposits, withdrawals, banking integrations, and financial reconciliations. The ideal candidate will ensure that payment systems behave correctly under all failure scenarios including retries, duplicate callbacks, delayed settlements, and operational edge cases. This role requires deep expertise in payment infrastructure, banking integrations, and ledger consistency to maintain the integrity of real-money systems.
Responsibilities
- Own the end-to-end architecture and reliability of fiat payment flows, including deposits, withdrawals, and settlement workflows.
- Design and maintain integrations with bank APIs and payment gateways supporting UPI, IMPS, NEFT, RTGS, and other payment rails.
- Build resilient systems that correctly handle webhooks, retries, idempotency, and asynchronous callbacks from external banking partners.
- Implement mechanisms to ensure ledger integrity and balance accuracy, ensuring platform balances reflect real-world settlements.
- Develop and maintain daily, intraday, and exception-based reconciliation pipelines between internal ledgers and banking systems.
- Design operational tooling to support finance, reconciliation, and customer support teams.
- Handle payment-related production incidents, perform root cause analysis, and implement long-term system improvements.
- Ensure systems are designed to handle edge cases, delayed bank files, partial settlements, and duplicate transaction scenarios.
- Work closely with finance, risk, product, and operations teams to maintain the reliability of financial systems.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- 6+ years of experience building backend systems involving real-money transactions.
- Strong experience integrating with banking APIs and payment gateways in India.
- Deep understanding of payment system reliability patterns, including:
- Exactly-once vs at-least-once processing semantics.
- Event-driven architectures and webhook failure handling.
- Ledger consistency and reconciliation strategies.
- Proven experience owning production payment systems in high-reliability environments.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to operate under operational pressure and ambiguous situations.
- Excellent collaboration and communication skills when working with cross-functional teams.
Preferred Skills
- Experience building reconciliation systems used by finance teams on a daily basis.
- Experience managing high-severity payment incidents and recovery processes.
- Background in regulated fintech, banking infrastructure, or crypto exchanges.
- Experience designing scalable payment systems that meet compliance, audit, and operational requirements.
Experience
