Job Summary

We are looking for an experienced Database Subject Matter Expert (SME) to support critical cloud migration projects, focusing on transitioning on-premises databases such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, and MongoDB to Azure native managed database platforms. The ideal candidate will leverage their deep technical expertise to lead all aspects of the migration lifecycle, ensuring successful implementation and optimization of cloud databases.

Responsibilities

• Discovery & Assessment

  • Conduct thorough discovery of existing on-premises PostgreSQL, MySQL, and MongoDB environments.
  • Evaluate schema designs, data volumes, configuration, performance characteristics, and high availability/disaster recovery (HA/DR) setups.
  • Assess compatibility of source databases with Azure managed offerings (Azure PostgreSQL, Azure SQL Managed Instance, Cosmos DB).
  • Participate in creating inventory, complexity mapping, and readiness reports.

• Design & Planning

  • Define target architecture for each database platform on Azure, considering performance (vCores, IOPS, throughput), availability zones/geo-replication, backup, retention, recovery, and access control.
  • Recommend appropriate Azure services including Azure PostgreSQL Flexible Server, Azure SQL Managed Instance, and Cosmos DB with MongoDB API for NoSQL workloads.
  • Document migration design plans including rollback strategy and disaster recovery (DR) configuration.

• Migration Execution

  • Perform or support schema migration using tools like Azure Database Migration Service, pg_dump/pg_restore, mysqldump, mongoexport/import, and custom scripts.
  • Conduct data transfer in phased or cutover models (offline/online replication).
  • Validate data integrity, consistency, and performance post-migration.

Qualifications

• Technical Skills

  • Deep expertise in PostgreSQL, MySQL, and MongoDB.
  • Strong experience with Azure database services such as Azure PostgreSQL, Azure SQL Managed Instance, and Cosmos DB.
  • Proficiency in database migration tools and techniques.

• Soft Skills

  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong communication and collaboration abilities to work effectively across teams.

• Educational Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (Master’s preferred).

Preferred Skills

• Experience with Kubernetes and Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS).
• Knowledge of Cloud Architecture frameworks and best practices.
• Familiarity with scripting languages (e.g., Python, PowerShell) for automation.

Experience

• A minimum of 5 years of experience in database administration and migration.
• Proven experience in managing the end-to-end database migration lifecycle.

Environment

• Location: India, Hybrid model.
• Work Hours: Must be able to work during Canada Eastern Standard Time (EST).
