Job Summary

The Sr. IBM DB2 Admin plays a critical role in managing and maintaining DB2 databases, ensuring optimal performance, and supporting application teams. This position requires both technical knowledge and practical experience in database management, performance tuning, and backup strategies to contribute effectively to the organization's goals.

Responsibilities

• Manage DB2 database architecture and ensure optimal performance through performance tuning.
• Create and maintain database objects including tables, indexes, and tablespaces as requested by application teams.
• Implement effective backup strategies, both online and offline, ensuring data integrity and availability.
• Perform database restores and apply logs to recover databases to specific points in time.
• Monitor database health using tools and conduct health checks, including checking log files and performance metrics.
• Handle database upgrades, rollback plans, and troubleshoot issues related to log files and database descriptors.
• Establish and implement database security rules, granting appropriate user permissions as per security policies.
• Enable proactive monitoring for early detection of issues, incorporating lessons learned from past incidents.

Qualifications

• Experience: Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience with DB2 administration.
• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field is preferred.
• Technical Skills:
  • Proficiency in DB2 architecture and functionality.
  • Experience with backup and restoration processes.
  • Knowledge of HADR (High Availability Disaster Recovery) setups.
  • Familiarity with query tuning and optimization.
  • Competency in using Linux/Unix environments.
  • Experience with database maintenance and monitoring.
• Soft Skills:
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting abilities.
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Effective communication skills for collaborating with application teams.

Preferred Skills

• Experience with database replication setups (SQL and Q) from primary to standby.
