Director of Engineering, India (Site Lead)
Job Summary
As the Director of Engineering and India Site Lead, you will be responsible for building and leading the engineering team in India, as well as establishing the site itself. This pivotal role involves hiring, developing a strong team, and ensuring high-quality outcomes in alignment with the company's standards and objectives.
Responsibilities

Build and lead the engineering team: Hire, grow, and manage a team of product and software engineers responsible for creating simulations and reinforcement learning environments.

Own delivery and outcomes: Set direction for the India team, unblock challenges, and ensure delivery of high-quality work on time.

Maintain technical standards: Establish and uphold the technical quality bar for code correctness, edge cases, and robustness.

Stay hands-on: Remain involved in the coding process to build trust within the team and make informed technical decisions.

Collaborate with US teams: Partner with US-based Applied Researchers and platform engineers to keep the India team integrated with the wider company.

Establish and run the site: Oversee job location, workspace setup, vendor relationships, local hiring, and site operations.

Shape company culture: Cultivate a positive workplace environment that reflects the company's standards right from the start.

Manage operational foundations: Work with finance, legal, and People teams to handle payroll, compliance, budget, and planning.
Qualifications

Experience: 10+ years in software engineering with a minimum of 5 years in leadership, ideally with experience leading other managers.

Team building: Proven track record of building or scaling a team from its initial stages in a startup or fast-paced environment.

Technical depth: Hands-on experience in full-stack product engineering to set and maintain high technical standards.

Operational skills: Strong instincts for managing hiring, budgeting, and setup processes.

Communication: Excellent cross-cultural and cross-timezone communication skills for collaboration with a US-based team.
