Job Description
Safety Manager
- Lead the development and implementation of comprehensive safety programs, including OSHA PSM (29 CFR 1910.119), hazard communication, confined space, LOTO, and emergency response.
- Conduct regular safety audits, inspections, and risk assessments to identify potential hazards and ensure regulatory compliance.
- Oversee and maintain the plant’s Process Safety Management (PSM) program, including MOC (Management of Change), PHA (Process Hazard Analysis), and mechanical integrity systems.
- Manage incident investigations, root cause analysis (e.g., 5-Whys, Fishbone, TapRooT), and follow-up on corrective/preventive actions.
- Coordinate and conduct safety training for plant personnel, including onboarding for new employees and annual refreshers.
- Liaise with regulatory bodies (e.g., OSHA, EPA, local fire departments) and prepare reports, documentation, and submissions as needed.
- Support environmental compliance efforts and collaborate with the EHS and operations teams.
- Promote a strong safety culture through leadership engagement, behavior-based safety programs, and employee participation.
- Monitor, track, and report on safety performance metrics (e.g., TRIR, near misses, leading indicators).
- Participate in emergency preparedness and response planning, including drills and emergency equipment maintenance.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Environmental Science, Occupational Safety, or related field.
- 8+ years of experience in a chemical or manufacturing environment with at least 2 years in a safety leadership role.
- Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations, EPA standards, and chemical process safety (e.g., NFPA, API, ANSI).
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP), CIH, or similar credential preferred.
- Proficient in safety management systems, incident investigation tools, and risk assessment methodologies.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
Working Conditions:
- On-site at a chemical manufacturing facility.
