SARAL - Senior Backend Engineer

SARAL is an influencer relationship management platform for eCommerce businesses to find, reach out, manage, and track the performance of the influencers they work with. We’re a self-funded company from India, selling primarily to US-based brands. Our mission is to be the simplest results-oriented influencer marketing platform Direct-to-Consumer (DTC) brands use for all things that involve creators.

Job Summary

As a Lead Backend Engineer, you will be part of the core engineering team on the mission to build the world’s best influencer operating system powering partnerships between eCommerce brands and creators. You will influence architectural decisions, set engineering standards, and create a best-in-class product that drives real business impact at a fast-growing startup. This is a fully remote role, where you’ll own core parts of the technology stack and implement features that resonate with customers.

Responsibilities

• Ensure engineering excellence by adhering to high standards of craftsmanship and treating engineering as a craft.
• Perform pull request (PR) reviews for other developers and provide guidance to junior engineers.
• Write robust APIs and design scalable, maintainable backend services.
• Ensure modular, maintainable code to accommodate rapid feature iterations, focusing on optimizing backend performance, latency, and throughput.
• Collaborate effectively with engineers, product managers, designers, and leadership to clarify requirements and maintain project visibility.
• Foster a positive work environment that encourages collaboration and self-agency within the team.

Qualifications

• Previous experience as a Backend Engineer or Lead Backend Engineer, with 4+ years of experience working with backend technologies, specifically Node.js.
• Strong grasp of system design principles, capable of architecting scalable and maintainable backend systems.
• Expert-level proficiency in TypeScript, PostgreSQL, and Express.js (non-negotiable).
• Hands-on experience with AWS technologies such as EC2, ECS, S3, Lambda, and SQS is a plus.
• Good understanding of caching strategies and implementations (Redis, Memcached, etc.).
• Strong command of SQL and experience in database performance optimization.
• Proven experience in designing, developing, and maintaining RESTful APIs.
• Effective collaboration skills with the capability to work with cross-functional teams.

Preferred Skills

• Experience with microservices architecture and containers (Docker/Kubernetes).
• Knowledge of DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines would be advantageous.
• Previous experience in a startup environment or in a fast-paced tech company.

Experience

A minimum of 4 years of experience in backend development roles, with significant exposure to leading backend projects.
