Job Summary
The CyberLife Developer will lead the design, coding, testing, and implementation of enhancements and maintenance changes within the CyberLife platform, focusing significantly on batch modules. This role is essential in ensuring high-quality software development and optimization of processes critical to life insurance product management.
Responsibilities
- Lead the design, coding, testing, and implementation of enhancements and maintenance changes in the CyberLife platform, with a focus on batch modules.
- Utilize CyberLife internal utilities and development tools, including segment mapping and navigation logic, pointer/stub architecture, and proprietary IO routines.
- Analyze and optimize VSAM file layouts, IO processing techniques, and large-scale batch processes.
- Create and maintain complex Job Control Language (JCL) job streams, manage dependencies, and troubleshoot failures in high-volume processing environments.
- Participate in de-segmentation efforts to extract key data from VSAM and segment files for downstream systems (EDP, analytics, customer experience platforms).
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams on modernization and transformation initiatives, including real-time replication, API enablement, and mainframe-to-cloud integrations.
- Mentor junior developers and conduct code/logic reviews to ensure adherence to best practices in mainframe development.
- Deliver detailed technical documentation, data flow diagrams, and transition artifacts for project and audit readiness.
Qualifications
- 10+ years of hands-on development experience with CyberLife, having substantial domain knowledge in life insurance product configuration, policy lifecycle processing, and benefit handling.
- Expert-level programming skills in COBOL, with strong abilities in debugging, modular design, and optimization.
- Mastery of JCL, including job stream creation, conditional logic, dataset management, and restart/recovery techniques.
- Advanced knowledge of VSAM KSDS/ESDS/RRDS, IO buffering, and data access strategies.
- Proficient in CyberLife internal structures, including segment definitions, control blocks, sub-record hierarchies, and stub/pointer mechanics.
- Experienced in mainframe debugging and analysis tools (e.g., File-AID, Abend-AID, IBM Debug Tool, CA7/Control-M).
Preferred Skills
- Knowledge of API integrations and cloud-based application development.
- Experience with software development methodologies and agile practices.
