Job Summary
The Class A Surfacing – Studio Engineer plays a unique and critical role in the Product Development Team. This position involves close collaboration with Industrial Designers, Mechanical Engineers, and manufacturing partners to develop world-class products. The primary deliverable is the modeling of the exterior Class-A surfaces, including updates to current products and the development of new products or concepts.
Responsibilities
- Work closely with the Industrial Design team, Mechanical Engineering team, and the Prototyping team in developing CAD models from rough concepts and prototypes to final Class-A models.
- Act as a liaison between the Industrial Design and Mechanical Engineering teams, ensuring all Industrial Design requirements are captured and assisting in resolving Mechanical Engineering issues during product development.
- Understand and support Mechanical Engineering, Tooling, and Manufacturing requirements while protecting Industrial Design intent through production.
- Provide necessary CAD data to the Prototyping team to support the development of physical prototype models.
Qualifications
- A degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, or a related field, or a candidate with 5+ years of relevant experience without a degree will also be considered.
- Proven experience in the development of Class-A surface models, working closely with Industrial Designers.
- Experience in building parametric CAD models and collaborative work within a Product Data Management (PDM) system.
- Advanced understanding of Class-A Surfacing techniques and terminology.
- Strong communication skills and well-organized management of CAD data while working on multiple projects.
Preferred Skills
- Proficiency in Autodesk Alias and ICEM Surf.
- Experience with PTC Creo, Siemens NX, SolidWorks, or Catia.
- Familiarity with Windchill or Team Center.
- Blender SUBD modeling (Optional).
Experience
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in fields related to Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, or Class-A Surfacing.
