Database Administrator
Job Summary
This role is essential in ensuring that databases operate effectively and securely. The Database Administrator will focus on analyzing and resolving issues within the specified Service Level Agreement (SLA), maintaining strong ownership of problems, and keeping communication open with relevant teams to ensure timely updates and resolutions. Adherence to guidelines while implementing changes in production is critical. This position is part of the Production DBA Team.
Responsibilities
- Manage database administration for both on-premise and cloud-based environments.
- Work extensively with MySQL, PostgreSQL, AWS RDS MySQL, Aurora, and Amazon Redshift.
- Administer Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) including DBCS and ADW environments.
- Utilize Hadoop for database solutions.
- Employ command-line tools such as OCI CLI and script in Python for various tasks.
- Monitor databases proactively for performance and capacity management.
- Execute backups, restoration, and recovery models while ensuring proactive housekeeping and archiving.
- Conduct performance tuning and optimization using native monitoring tools.
- Troubleshoot Oracle databases and monitor usage through various metrics and performance hubs.
- Implement Oracle alerts using OCI alarms and handle issues related to tablespace and database mounts.
- Manage and understand Oracle Container Databases (CDBs) and Pluggable Databases (PDBs).
- Create and manage password-less wallets for database security.
- Work with database monitoring tools like SolarWinds DPA, CloudWatch, and Opsgenie.
- Address and resolve database integrity, performance, connectivity, and replication issues.
- Collaborate with vendors such as AWS, Oracle, and Solarwinds for support and issue resolution.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field.
- Experience: 8 to 12 years in database administration.
- Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in MySQL, PostgreSQL, AWS services, and OCI.
- Strong understanding of database performance tuning and optimization.
- Familiarity with scripting languages: Shell, Perl, Python.
- Knowledge of database monitoring and alerting tools.
- Soft Skills:
- Excellent communication and documentation skills.
- Strong problem-solving capabilities.
- Good interpersonal skills to work collaboratively with various teams.
