Functional testing and automation testing, with Team management

Job Summary

This role involves leading functional and automation testing efforts with a strong focus on quality and technical leadership. The candidate will manage and mentor a testing team, ensuring comprehensive testing coverage across all release cycles. The position requires close collaboration with product and development teams to define and maintain detailed test plans, while driving automation initiatives and engineering best practices to support large-scale, cross-functional programs.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate technical leadership by applying robust testing methodologies with a quality-first mindset.
• Ensure thorough testing at all levels (regression, end-to-end, system) for each release cycle, both individually and through the team.
• Define, implement, and maintain detailed test plans, test cases, and procedures in collaboration with product and development teams.
• Develop an in-depth technical understanding of the software platform, including Android Open Source Project (AOSP), APIs, and UI interactions, to enable first-level root cause analysis.
• Identify and drive automation activities through proactive planning and prioritization.
• Introduce and promote engineering best practices to initiate, plan, and execute large-scale, cross-functional, company-wide critical programs.
• Provide technical mentoring and guidance to team members.
• Ensure detailed and timely bug reporting and maintain Jira issue tracking system integrity.

Qualifications

• Strong obsession with quality and customer satisfaction.
• Experience with platform and kernel-level testing, including AOSP and Linux.
• In-depth understanding of application APIs and experience testing them using both manual and automation methods.
• Experience in UI testing and automation for desktop or mobile applications.
• Proven experience in leading or mentoring a team.
• Clear and effective communication skills, especially when providing feedback.
• Detail-oriented with the ability to identify subtle issues ("needle in a haystack").
• Skilled in writing clear and comprehensive test plans, test cases, and test procedures.
• Educational qualifications typically include a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.

Preferred Skills

• Familiarity with automation frameworks and tools relevant to platform and UI testing.
• Experience working in Agile development environments.
• Knowledge of continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines.
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work under pressure.

Experience

• Relevant experience in functional and automation testing.
• Experience in platform/kernel level testing such as AOSP and Linux.
• Prior experience in team leadership or mentoring roles.
