Design Engineer – Electrical
Job Summary
The Design Engineer – Electrical is responsible for the electrical design and engineering of power, substation, and distribution transformers. This role supports projects from concept design through manufacturing and testing, ensuring high-performance transformer solutions that comply with international standards such as IEEE, ANSI, and IEC. The engineer will collaborate with cross-functional teams to optimize designs, improve processes, and stay abreast of technological advancements in transformer engineering.
Responsibilities
- Customer & Proposal Engineering Support: Collaborate with the sales team to review customer RFQs and technical specifications, developing accurate and compliant quotations for transformer inquiries while minimizing costs and risks.
- Design Documentation: Prepare and review electrical design calculations, drawings, and technical reports aligned with customer requirements and applicable standards.
- Simulation & Engineering Analysis: Use specialized software tools (e.g., Maxwell, Andersen, MATLAB) for transformer modeling and simulation to improve performance, reliability, and cost efficiency.
- Customer Engagement: Participate in customer meetings, design reviews, and technical discussions to provide engineering clarifications and build confidence in proposed solutions.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with mechanical design, manufacturing, procurement, and quality teams to ensure designs are practical, manufacturable, and cost-effective.
- Prototype & Production Support: Support prototype development, factory testing, and production ramp-up, including root cause analysis and driving design improvements for manufacturing or field issues.
- Technology & Industry Awareness: Stay updated on advancements in transformer design, materials, and emerging technologies to enhance engineering outcomes.
- Process & Standards Development: Assist in developing and implementing internal engineering standards, best practices, and design processes.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
- 5–10 years of experience in transformer electrical design.
- Strong understanding of power and distribution transformer design principles.
- Proficiency in engineering and simulation tools such as Ansys (Maxwell and others), Andersen, MATLAB.
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD or similar engineering drafting tools.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent communication skills for collaboration with engineering teams, manufacturing, and customers.
- Knowledge of international transformer standards (IEEE, ANSI, IEC).
- Experience supporting design, proposal engineering, and manufacturing processes for the US market.
