Job Summary

The Senior Power System Engineer will be responsible for designing, analyzing, and ensuring compliance with grid codes related to power systems. This role is critical in contributing to the efficiency and reliability of the transmission and distribution networks, particularly focusing on South African systems and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

• Interpret and analyze typical substation primary and secondary/control plant design drawings.
• Conduct network modeling and analysis using DIgSILENT PowerFactory, PSS/E, ETAP, or equivalent software packages.
• Perform grid code compliance studies, grid impact studies, and network planning studies.
• Apply knowledge of South African transmission and distribution systems along with the South African Grid Code.
• Evaluate current industry developments related to power systems.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronic Engineering, or equivalent.
• Familiarity with substation design and grid studies.
• Experience in network modeling and analysis.
• Strong understanding of grid code compliance for transmission systems in South Africa.

Preferred Skills

• Postgraduate degree (Master's or higher) in engineering.
• Registration or progression towards registration with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) as a Professional Engineer.
• Experience in insulation coordination, earthing, protection coordination, or arc flash studies.
• Data analysis proficiency using Excel, Python, or similar tools.
• Scripting skills for automation of repetitive analytical tasks.
• Previous experience as an owner's engineer on energy or infrastructure projects.

Experience

• 3-6 years of relevant experience in power systems engineering, network analysis, and grid compliance studies.
